YMGCR BOWLS CLUB
Wednesday Social Bowls.
The format on Wednesday the 18th of October was 3 bowl pairs over two games each of 12 ends. As bowlers focus is now on Mid – Week and Saturday pennant numbers participating have dropped off somewhat, none the less 16 players participated and enjoyed the free running greens and each other’s company. Winners on the day were the team of Rob Lidgerwood (S) and Sue Evans (L) with two game wins and plus 22 shots. In second place were the pairing of Allan Goudge (S) and Chris Horne (L) with two wins and plus 14 shots. The Rolling Jackpot was not won, and jackpots to next Wednesday. The Lucky Number was won by Noel Millar.
Mid-Week Pennant Report.
Our A1 side had a week off as a result of the number of YMGCR bowlers who were on State Side duties in W.A.
The A2’s travelled to Corowa RSL where the home side were in no mood to demonstrate a warm welcome to YMGCR. Corowa RSL won convincingly, with a clean sweep of 90 shots & 14 points. The YMGCR rink of Sue Evans (L), Norm Windebank (2), Pam Dodman (3) and Doddy Dodman (S) fought hard all day but went down by 10 shots 27 to 17, which in the bigger picture was a creditable result.
The A3’s journeyed to Mansfield and went down to the home side; Mansfield 62 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 45 shots and 2 points. Coming away with a rink win for YMGCR were the team of Doug McTier (L), Chris Horne (2), Jan Morton (3) and Ian Morffew (S), who beat their opponents 17 shots to 16 shots. Well done Ian and team.
Saturday Pennant Report.
The A1 side played their first game for the season away against Rutherglen. In a game where both sides fortunes fluctuated all day YMGCR came away with the win 84 shots 14 points to Rutherglen 77 shots and 4 points. Making a return to the skipper’s job Garry Sanders, along with his team of Ian Febey (L), Garry Presnell (2) and Julian Jones (3) came home with a wet sail to overcome their opponents 22 shots to 19 shots. The big winners for YMGCR were the rink of Micheal Vaughan (L), Andy LeFevre (2), Rod Jones (3) and Jim LeFevre (S) 29 shots to Rutherglen’s 15 shots.
The A2’s played host to Wodonga and came away with a 74 shot & 16 point win to Wodonga’s 68 shots and 2 points. The rink of Rhonda Irvine (L), Trevor Kilpatrick (2), Rob Lidgerwood (3) and Alan Goudge (S) had a creditable win 24 shots to 16 shots. Also among the points were Col Withers (L), Tony Durkin (2), Shirley Hummel (3) and Rob Hummel (S) who won 19 shots to 16 shots. Ian ‘Skeeter’ Keat, opened his account as a new skipper for YMGCR with a 18 shot to 14 shot win. Ably assisting Ian were Ross Lloyd (L), Peter Lidgerwood (2) and Ray Brown (3).
Our A4 side were away to Rutherglen and would have enjoyed the bus journey back to Yarrawonga after an 86 shot, 16 point win to Rutherglen’s 66 shot 2 point total. Bringing the points home in fine style were the rink of Lynne Baxter (L), Les Wilson (2), Bob Brokenshire (3) and Ian Price (S) who made short work of their opponents 27 shots to 12 shots. Ian Morffew (S) and his rink of Marie Morffew (L), Mary Essex (2), and Danny McNeill (3) also had a solid win 21 shots to 14 shots. Also bringing home a rink win was Chris Horne (L), Rob Martin (2), Pam Dodman (3) and Doddy Dodman (S) who accounted for Rutherglen 20 shots to 17 shots.
In the local derby match YMGCR’s B2 side played host to Yarrawonga and came away with the shots and the points. Final score: YMGCR 65 shots and 12 points to Yarrawonga 47 shots and 2 points. Waving the flag for YMGCR were the rink of Carolyn Boston (L), Bill Hidson (2), Neville Coleman (3) and Les Balfour (S) who won 25 shots to 12 shots. The combination of Doug McTier (L), Terry Baxter (2), Jan Morton (3) and Gavin Borwick (S), also enjoyed a solid rink win 24 shots to 12 shots. Until next week, good bowling.
