YMGCR BOWLS CLUB
Mid – Week Pennant.
YMGCR’s A1 side made the short hop to Yarrawonga Bowls Club for the local derby and unfortunately for YMGCR, it was the home side who mastered the conditions. Yarrawonga won 65 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 47 shots and 2 points. Securing a valuable 2 points for YMGCR were the rink of Ian Febey (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Gary Presnell (3) and Ray Irvine (S), who won 22 shots to 16.
The A2’s hosted St. James and in something of a reminder of the tied test between Australian and the West Indies in the 1960 / 1961 test series, YMGCR drew with St. James 60 shots and 7 points to St. James 60 shots and 7 points; a e\remarkable result. Winning in fine style for YMGCR was the rink of Lynne Baxter (L), Vicki Withers (2), Garry Hart (3) and Allan Goudge (S), who accounted for their opponents 31 shots to 18 shots. Determined to extend the extraordinary tied over all score to the rink level were Denise Trubiano (L), Marcia McGrillen (2), Pam Dodman (3) and Doddy Dodman (S), who tied with their opponents 18 shots apiece.
YMGCR’s A3s hosted Rutherglen and despite the home ground advantage it was Rutherglen who won the day 61 shots and 13 points to YMGCR’s 44 shots and 1 point. Continuing in the tied scores theme the YMGCR rink of Jill Lamson (L), Cathy Spinks (2), Gavin Borwick (3) and Ron Lamson (S) drew with their opponents 17 shots to 17 shots and brought home 1 valuable point.
Wednesday Social Bowls.
Wednesday Social resumed after a one-week hiatus, due to the rescheduling of mid – week pennant. 16 players enjoyed the conditions on the east green and the 3 bowl pairs format. First prize went to Bob Fiddes (S) and Noel Millar (L) who won both games and had had a healthy shot total of 18. In second place with a loss in the first game and a win in the second, with a shot total of 15 shots were Col Withers (S) and Doug McTier (L).
Weekend Pennant.
YMGCR’s A1 side hosted Wangaratta and didn’t exactly put out the welcome mat, with YMGCR winning 99 shots and 16 points to Wangaratta’s 74 shots and 2 points. New skip Ian Brimblecombe and his rink of Anne Miles (3), Wayne Lowrie (2) and Gary Presnell (L), rode well ahead of the rest of the field winning 32 shots to 12.
YMGCR’s A2 team were hosted by local rivals Yarrawonga Bowls Club and the home side accounted for YMGCR beating the visitors 96 shots and 16 points to YMGCR’s 67 shots and 2 points. An honourable mention to the rink of Rhonda Irvine (L), Trevor Kilpatrick (2), Peter Lidgerwood (3) and Allan Goudge (S) who secured an invaluable 2 points, winning against their opponents 18 shots to 17 shots.
The A4’s hosted Swanpool and in what turned out to be a close tussle all day brought home the win. YMGCR 76 shots and 15 points to Swanpool 70 shots and 3 points. Winning in fine style, which is becoming something of the norm for this rink were, Maire Morffew (L), Mary Essex (2), Liliana Borwick (3) and Ian Morffew (S), who accounted for their opponents 22 shots to 12 shots.
The YMGCR B2 side was entertained by Corowa RSL and it was the visitors who walked away with the game in a closely fought contest. YMGCR 58 shots and 11 points to Corowa RSL 56 shots and 3 points. Securing a big rink win for the visitors was the rink of new bowler Robyn Forge (L), Doug McTier (2), Rob Martin (3) and Les Balfour (S), who won 29 shots to their opponents 13 shots.
Bloke’s Day on Oaks Day.
YMGCR Bowls hosted their annual Charity Tournament, Bloke’s Day on Oaks Day on Thursday the 9th of November, with all monies raised going to important research into Prostate cancer. The format was 2 bowl triples. All rinks were full, with a total of 84 players enjoying the fine weather and superbly prepared greens. Winning the tournament were the home team of Greg Green, Andy Lefevre and Jim Lefevre. Second place went to another YMGCR rink comprising Vic Brincat, Ian Keat and Neil Loveridge. Great tournaments like this don’t happen by accident and with this in mind we would like to extend a big thank you the band of volunteers who made the day the success it deserved to be. Donating their time so generously were Norm Windebank, Rob Hummel and Liliana Borwick who did a marvellous job on the BBQ. Also assisting with the food preparation were Barb Tennyson, Pam Dodman and Jill Lamson. Greg Fisher ensured that everyone didn’t go thirsty and manned the drinks stall. Thank you also must go to Rhonda Irvine, for selling the raffle tickets. The Men’s Social Committee also helped; thank you to Danny McNeill, Les Balfour and Gavin Borwick. Also donating their time and making a valuable contribution were Kerry Kinane, Albert Dodman and Ian Price.
