Wednesday Social Bowls Report.
Threatening weather saw Social Bowls cancelled for last Wednesday. So, with no games to report on, this may be the ideal opportunity to let all bowlers know about some changes that are coming to Wednesday Social Bowls. Social Bowls will be moving from Wednesdays to Thursdays commencing on Thursday the 2nd of October. The Match Committee have decided on the move after much consideration and consultation with social bowlers. The move to Thursdays will create a bit more space between Mid – Week pennant, Social Bowls and Weekend Pennant. The format remains the same; one game of nominated 3 bowl pairs played over 22 ends. The prize money will still be some of the best on offer on the social bowls circuit, and the Lucky Number raffles will continue as usual. The game commences at 12.30pm. Single entries and visitors from surrounding clubs, and further afield, are most welcome to join in. We would ask single entry players and visitors to include a contact telephone number when adding your names to the entry sheets.
Friday Social Bowls Report.
24 players turned out for Friday social bowls last week. Numbers were no doubtably light due to the number of tournaments that are being played at the moment, as well as many bowlers preparing for the upcoming pennant season. Fine weather and free running greens greeted bowlers. Rink 7 was certainly lucky for Doug McTier and Andy LeFevre who won the day, sharing first prize of $70.00. Runners up, on the day were Karen Bianco and Ray Brown, who found conditions to their liking on rink 5. Karen and Ray shared $60.00 for their efforts. The lucky losing rink consolation prize of $40.00 was shared by the team of Wendy Pump and Chris Morrisy. The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $20.00 and a drink card was won by Andy LeFevre and the second Lucky Number prize of $15.00 was won by David Irvine. Friday Social bowls last day, for the year, will be played on the 26th of September. This will be your last chance to help celebrate what has been another successful Friday Social season. See you all on the 26th of September.
YMGCR Bowls Opening Day 2025 / 2026 Season.
YMGCR Bowls held their opening day celebrations yesterday, Sunday the 14th of September. 48 players attended what was a very successful day of bowls and good times. Vice President Jill Lamson welcomed bowlers for the upcoming season. A minute’s silence was held in memory of members that have passed away, over the last twelve months. Last year’s Ladies Champion, Laureen Smith, rolled the first jack and bowl of the season and one of our new members, Tom Kindred, and our senior member, Doug McTier, rolled down a bowl each. Jill then welcomed our new members, whom we have recruited through the hard work of Kerry Kinnane, Rom Lamson, Trevor Kilpatrick, Les Balfour, and many others who gave so generously of their time to run the Autumn Charity Bowls Challenge. Anne Miles and Ray Brown have also been unstinting in their efforts to welcome and coach our new players. Then followed a game of 2 bowl fours with a twist. The twist being players rotating through all the playing positions. After 12 ends of bowls everyone made their way to the Willow Room to enjoy each other’s company, the awarding of prizes, some fine food and a few beverages, and the raffles. The winning rink comprised Rob Hummel, Lynne Baxter, Robyn Moore and Gavin Borwick. The winning rink runners up were the team of Barb Tennyson, Liliana Borwick, Wendy Pump and Colin Withers. Thanks to Lynne Baxter, Vicki Withers, Colin Withers, Jill and Ron Lamson, and so many others who brought a very, very successful day together. Until next week, good bowling.
