YMGCR Bowls Club.

Mid – Week Pennant Report.

The A1s hosted the team from the other end of Belmore St, Yarrawonga last Tuesday and it was an all rinks clean sweep for YMGCR. Final scores saw YMGCR 68 shots and 14 points to Yarrawonga 49 shots and 0 points. Leading the charge for YMGCR were Judy Leeson (L), Ray Brown (2), Gary Presnell (3), and Ray Irvine (S), who bested their opponents 24 shots to Yarrawonga 11 shots. The A1s find themselves in 4th place on the ladder and next round travel to Corowa Civic.

The A2s were given a walkover by Moira Bowling Club, not the ideal way to secure a 10 shot and 14 point win. The A2s are in 1st place on the ladder on 30 points with Club Mulwala snapping at their heels on 28 points. After the week off, the A2s next assignment is an away fixture at Wodonga.

The B2s travelled to Corowa RSL for their round 3 game and after a close tussle it was the hosts who prevailed. The final scores saw Corowa RSL down YMGCR 64 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 57 shots and 2 points. Securing 2 valuable points for YMGCR were Bill Jenkins (L), Wendy Pump (2), Noel Smith (3), and Peter Lidgerwood (S), who beat their Corowa RSL opponents 20 shots to 16 shots. The B2s are now in 5th place on the ladder and next week host Club Mulwala at the Golf Club.

Thursday Social Bowls Report.

Last Thursday saw another good turnout of 40 players participate in the weekly game of 3 bowl nominated pairs played over 22 ends. Games were played on both greens and the orientation was north south bowls. First prize of $120.00 was shared by Les Balfour and Rob Lidgerwood. The winners runners up prize of $70.00 was won by Cate and Ian Febey. The losing rink consolation prize of $50.00 was shared by Sue Beca and Anne Miles. The first Lucky Number prize of $20.00 was won by Tony Durkin and the second Lucky Number prize of $15.00 was won by Graeme Foster.

 Weekend Pennant Report.

The A1s travelled to top placed team Corowa RSL on Saturday, and it was YMGCR who prevailed and came away with a terrific away win, which saw the final scores YMGCR 78 shots and 16 points to Corowa RSL 66 shots and 2 points. Putting their RSL opponents to the sword were Laureen Smith (L), Greg Fisher (2), Anne Miles (3), and Ian Brimblecombe (S) who won 27 shots to Corowa RSL 11 shots. The A1s are still in 6th place on the ladder and next week finally have a home fixture where they host Wangaratta.

The A3s hosted Bright, at the Golf Club and won with a degree of style. After the 84th end it was YMGCR 97 shots and 16 points to Bright 66 shots and 2 points. Winning with a leg in the air were Barb Tennyson (L), Lynne Baxter (2), Liliana Borwick (3) and Rob Lidgerwood (S), who won 28 shots to 12 shots. The A3s find themselves in 5th place, and next week travel to Beechworth.

The B1s were hosted by St. James last Saturday and it was the home side that won the day. Final scores saw St. James 66 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 49 shots and 2 points. YMGCRs sole winning rink was the combination of Tony Durkin (L), Jill Lamson (2), Doug Wheeler (3), and Vicki Withers (S), who prevailed over their opposition 20 shots to 18 shots. The B1s are in 6th place on the ladder, and their next outing is a home match against Club Mulwala.

The B2s hosted St. James, on Saturday, and in reversal of the B1s match against St. James, it was a clean sweep for YMGCR where the final scores saw YMGCR 64 shots and 14 points defeat St. James 45 shots and 0 points. Winning in fine style were Chris Morrissy (L), Terry Cartwright (2), Bruce Davie (3), and David Irvine (S), who beat their opponents 26 shots to St. James 12 shots. Well done to this rink of players who are largely new to the sport of bowls. Until next week, good bowling.
