YMGCR Bowls Section.

Mid – Week Pennant Report.

The A1s travelled to Corowa RSL, last Tuesday, for what promised to be a tough away assignment, and after the last end it was Corowa RSL who had won the day. The final scores saw Corowa RSL 72 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 48 shots and 2 points. This result now finds the A1s in 3rd spot on the ladder with 74 points in the bag. Securing 2 valuable points for YMGCR were Rhonda Irvine (L), Chris Horne (2), Greg Green (3), and Ian Brimblecombe (S), who won 20 shots to Corowa RSL 18 shots. The next outing for the A1s sees them travel down Belmore Street for a round 10 away engagement at Yarrawonga.

The A2s undertook the long trip to Kiewa last week, and as we all know a trip to Kiewa can potentially be a toss of the coin outcome. After the dust settled it was the A2s who won the day with YMGCR 62 shots and 13 points to Kiewa 56 shots and 1 point. Winning well for the A2s were Bruce Davie (L), Liliana Borwick (2), Shirley Hummel (3), and Rob Hummel (S), won the day 19 shots to Kiewa 16 shots. Round 10 sees the A2s travel to Benalla for an away game at Moira. The A2s are currently in 3rd place on the ladder with 79 shots.

The B2s hosted near neighbours Tungamah last week at the golf club and after the 63rd end had been played it was the B2s by the barest of margins. Final scores saw YMGCR 61 shots and 10 points defeat Tungamah 60 shots and 4 points. Doubling their oppositions score were Denise Trubiano (L), Noel Smith (2), Garry Hart (3), and Vic Brincat (S), who won 26 shots to Tungamah 13 shots. Round 10 sees the B2s host Corowa RSL at the golf club. The B2s are in 4th place on the ladder with 56 shots in hand.

Thursday Social Bowls Report.

It was a field of 28 players who shaped up for Thursday Social Bowls last week. Play was in the north south orientation, and the greens ran very well. Winners on the day were the first placed team of Brad and Kurt Bleckwhel who shared $80.00 and a drink card each. The runners up, who shared $60.00 were Chris Horne, and a visitor, Bruce Irvine. The losing rink consolation prize was won by the pairing of Fred Donaldson and Noel Millar, who won $30.00.  The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $15.00 was won by Neville Coleman, and the second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 was won by Tony Durkin. That was the last game of Thursday / Wednesday Social Bowls for 2025. Thursday Social Bowls resumes on January the 8th 2026, and the game commences at 10.30 am

Weekend Pennant Report.

The A1s hosted Myrtleford, at the golf club and Myrtleford have been keen rivals of the A1s over the last few years, with a fair bit of pointed sportsmanship on the green. The last end of this encounter saw the A1s on 104 shots and 16 points to Myrtleford 63 shots and 2 points. This was probably the A1s most convincing win against Myrtleford in recent years. Winning well for the home team were Chris Horne (L), Caroline Reilly (2), Julian Jones (3), and Gary Presnell (S), who won 31 shots to Myrtleford 15 shots. the A1s are now in 2nd place on the ladder with 116 points. Their next outing is a home game against Corowa RSL after the Christmas break.

It was a pre Christmas break home game against Benalla for the A3s and they entered the Christmas hols with a stylish win. The final scores saw YMGCR 94 shots and 16 points defeat Benalla 74 shots and 2 points. Winning with a leg in the air for YMGCR were Shirley Hummel (L), Hayden Beca (2), Garry Seamer (3), and Rob Hummel (S), who won 24 shots to Benalla 11 shots. The A3s are now in 6th place on the ladder with 81 points in the bag. After the Christmas break they shape up to Bright at Bright.

The B1s hosted Yarrawonga last Saturday and it was the B1s who greeted the Christmas break with a comfortable home win. Final scores saw YMGCR 74 shots and 12 points to Yarrawonga 52 shots and 2 points. Showing their opposition no mercy whatsoever were Noel Loft (L), Tony Durkin (2), Doug Wheeler (3) and Vicki Withers (S), who won 37 shots to Yarrawonga 9 shots.

The B2s had a round 10 bye last week, and it could be said are this year’s YMGCR quiet achievers. They are now in 4th place on the ladder with 90 points in their Christmas stocking. Their next assignment is a post Christmas away game at St. James. Until next week, good bowling.
