YMGCR BOWLS CLUB
Mid-week Pennant.
The A1s, in their first outing of the season, which was a round 2 match, played host to Corowa RSL, which proved to be something of a tough assignment, considering the result. YMGCR 47 shots and 2 points to Corowa RSL 83 shots and 12 points. Winning with a solid result for the Golf Club were Rhonda Irvine (L), Ray Brown (2), Greg Green (3), and Ian Brimblecombe (S), who overcome their opponents 24 shots to Corowa RSL 18 shots.
With a first-round game to complete, due to the match being postponed with YMGCR players away on State Duty, the A1s had to shape up for a second game in three days when they undertook the journey to Kiewa last Thursday the 24th of October. After the last end was completed, it was Kiewa 64 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 48 shots and 2 points. After a slowish start the rink of Ian Febey (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Greg Green (3), and Ray Irvine managed to win well 22 shots to Kiewa 15 shots. This rink win secured a valuable 2 points for the A1s who find themselves in 7th place on the ladder and next game host Yarrawonga at the Golf Club.
The A2s hosted Myrtleford in their second game for the season and YMGCR had a solid home win, YMGCR 68 shots and 12 points to Myrtleford 59 shots and 2 points. This win sees the A2s in 6th place on the ladder. Having a great rink win were, Chris Horne (L), Vicki Withers (2), Marcia McGrillen (3), and Ian Keat (S), who won 26 shots to Myrtleford 17 shots. Also winning well were, Greg Fisher (L), Judy Leeson (2), Peter Lidgerwood (3), and Allan Goudge (S), who won 23 shots to 17 shots. The A2s next play St. James at the Golf Club.
Wednesday Social Bowls.
Last Wednesday saw 20 players participate in the weekly game of Social Bowls. The winners were Barb Tennyson and Neville Coleman who shared first prize of $80.00 and a drink card each. The Runners Up prize went to the team of Bob Brokenshire and Trevor Milne. The fist Lucky Number prize of $20.00 went to Peter Lidgerwood and the second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 went to Judy Leeson.
Weekend Pennant.
The A1s travelled to Myrtleford, where many close games have been fought out over the last couple of years. This was a terrific away win for YMGCR which saw the final score YMGCR 88 shots and 16 points to Myrtleford 76 shots and 2 points. Cruising to the finish line was the rink of Rhonda Irvine (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Greg Green (3), and Julian Jones (S), who won 29 shots to Myrtleford 13 shots. Also winning in fine style was the rink of Chris Horne (L), Bill Jenkins (2), Ian Keat (3), and Ian Brimblecombe (S), who won 26 shots to Myrtleford 19 shots. Continuing their winning way was the rink of Ian Febey (L), Ray Brown (2), Michael Vaughan (3), and Gary Presnell (S), who secured 2 points, winning 18 shots to Myrtleford 14 points. The A1s are in 4th place on the ladder and next week travel to Corowa RSL.
The A3s undertook the journey to Benalla, and it was the home side who won the day; Benalla 83 shots and 15 points to YMGCR 73 shots and 3 points. Winning for the visitors was the rink of Doug Wheeler (L), Greg Fisher (2), Jan Morton (3), and Liliana Borwick (S), who won 20 shots to Benalla 12 shots. Securing a draw, and a valuable point for the Golf Club were Marie Morffew (L), Tony Durkin (2), Ian Morffew (3), and Bob Evans (S), who drew with their opponents 20 shots apiece. The A3s are in 6th place and next week play Bright at home.
The A5s played host to Dederang and it was a clean sweep for the visitors, YMGCR 31 shots and 0 points to Dederang 71 shots and 14 points. Working hard for YMGCR was the rink of Sue Evans (L), Barb Tennyson (2), Keith Eade (3), and Noel Millar (S), who stayed in touch with their opponents but went down 10 shots to Dederang 18 shots. The A5s are in 6th place and next week entertain Bright at home.
Club Competitions.
The Match Committees advise that the draws are up for both the Ladies and Men’s Club Singles and the Mixed Pairs. Can those who entered please check when their games are due to be completed. Until next week, good bowling.
