Mid – Week & Weekend Pennant Round Up.
Mid – Week Pennant resumed on Tuesday, after the Christmas break. Round 11 sees the A1s are in action against Corowa Civic at home. The A2s also have a home fixture against Wodonga, while the B2s have an away game against neighbouring Club Mulwala. We’ll be reporting on the results from round 11 games next week.
The first round of Weekend Pennant, due to be held last Saturday, the 17th of January, was cancelled, and rightly so, due to the logistical problems associated with the devastating bushfires we are experiencing in Northeast Victoria, and in recognition that many in the region have other priorities than sport. In lieu of pennant, intra club practice was held at the Golf Club, and all green fees, a total of $510.00, were donated to the bushfire appeal. With the cancellation of pennant all sides shared the points for the round. This week’s round 12 games appear to be on a knife edge. With a predicted top temperature of 39 degrees on Saturday games may again be cancelled. The A1s have an away game at Rutherglen. The A3s entertain Beechworth at the Golf Club. The B1s have an away game against our near neighbours Club Mulwala, while the B2s have an away fixture against Wangaratta.
Thursday Social Bowls Report.
After the Christmas Break, and a weeks delayed start after social was cancelled due to very hot weather, social bowls resumed last Thursday the 15th of January. Considering it was the first hit out after the holiday break, a turnout of 32 players was a creditable showing. First prize of $100.00 and a drink card each was won by Vicki and Col Withers. Second prize of $60.00 was shared by Doug Wheeler and Trevor Kilpatrick. The lucky losing rink consolation prize of $40.00 was shared by Chris Horne and Karen Bianco. The first Lucky Number prize of $20.00 was won by Les Balfour. The second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 was won by Ron Lamson. During the warmer weather Thursday Social commences at 10.30am. To ensure you get a game place your sides names on the list, at the Bowls Office early in the week. Single entries and visitors are most welcome to play.
Ovens & Murray Singles at YMGCR.
YMGCR played host to the Ovens & Murray Regional Singles on Sunday. YMGCR bowlers who did the Golf Club proud were Hayden Beca who had a thrilling one shot win over noted Yarrawonga and O&M stalwart, Garry Sanders. This was a win full of merit as this is Haydens first year playing bowls. Ian Brimblecombe won his sectional rounds and now progresses to the next stage of the tournament. Until next week, good bowling.
