YMGCR Bowls Press Report 24 / 05 / 2026.
Wednesday Social Bowls Report.
44 Bowlers, including two visitors from Maffra turned out last Wednesday the 20th of May. The greens were running well, and both greens were in play. The winners of the winning rink first prize were Garry Seamer and Chris Horne who shared $100.00 and they also won a drink card each. The second winning rink prize was won by Tony Durkin and Norm Windebank who shared $70.00. Our Maffra visitors, Jennie and Mike Chislett, shared the losing rink consolation prize of $50.00. Well done Jennie and Mike, and we hope you enjoyed your time at YMGCR. The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $25.00 was won by Liliana Borwick, and the second Lucky Number raffle prize of $15.00 was won by Nicole Smith. Even though participant numbers have been very strong over the last few weeks, there is always room for more players. The format is 3 bowl nominated pairs, played over 22 ends. The cost to play is $10.00 per player; the prize money is some of the best, if not the best on offer for social bowls in the region. So, why not place your names on the entry sheets at the Bowls Office. Single entries and visitors from neighbouring clubs, and further afield are always welcome. Single entries and visitors please include a contact telephone number when placing your names on the entry sheets.
Friday Social Bowls.
Cool, but fine weather greeted the 52 players who turned out last Friday the 22nd of May for Friday Social Bowls. Both greens were in play, and the games were played in the east / west orientation. Some great tunes were also pounding out, which always adds to the atmosphere and, I can’t speak for all players, but I really do enjoy the music while bowling. Finding conditions on rink 9 to their liking were the team of Chris Horne and Greg Green who won the first prize of $140.00. Also finding conditions to their favour on the east green were David Irvine and Anthony Clota who blazed a trail into second place. David and Anthony shared $110.00 for their troubles. Number 9 proved lucky for the first losing rink consolation prize winners the combo of Judy Leeson and Allan Goudge, who had played first prize winners Greg Green and Chris Horne on rink 9, shared $70.00. The second losing rink consolation prize, also of $70.00 was shared by the team of Caroline Reilly and Dot. The selection of number 71 proved a wise choice for Wayne Lowrie who won the first Lucky Number prize of a drink card and $25.00. The second Lucky Number prize of $25.00 was won by Noel Millar.
Sunday Funday Bowls.
Numbers are increasing for Sunday Funday Social Bowls, which is great news. 32 players turned out on Sunday the 24th of May. After only a few weeks of reintroducing the Sunday Fundays it’s probably worth talking about the concept again. The games start at 1.00pm. The cost per player is $5.00. The format is single entry 2 x 4 x 2 pairs played over 14 ends. All YMGCR bowlers are welcome to play, and weekly entry sheets are always up on the Bowls Office notice board. The organisers try to team up an experienced player with one of our less experienced players. The experienced players pass on tips to their team mates concerning mat placement, jack rolling, scoring, tactics and game management. Prior to the game starting there is a draw to the spider, which gets the fun underway.
This week’s first prize winners, who shared $40.00 for their trouble were the team of Norm Windebank and Nicole Smith. The second place winning rink prize went to the combination of Sue Beca and Terry Cartwright, who shared $20.00. The losing rink consolation prize of $10.00 was won by Bruce Davie and Craig Jackson. The first Lucky Number prize of $15.00 was won by Bruce Davie, and the second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 was won by Terry Cartwright. Until next week, good bowling.
