YMGCR BOWLS CLUB
Wednesday Social Bowls had 28 players. We had visitors from Mt Martha and of all places SCOTLAND….but our international visitor got Keith Eade, so he was pushing up hill from the start. We only had 2 two game winners and the runners up with a VERY good score of +19 were “GG” Green and the latest stick phenomenon in Billy “The Stick Man” Jenkins. Just want to say, these arms are great for the game and have kept a lot of bowlers who we would have lost, still playing…. I know there are people who call them cheating sticks, BUT!!! Who cares, if it gets people with injuries back out on the greens, bowls is the winner. Now we get to the winners and with long layoff from social bowls …. Rory Brown got lucky and drew the old champ in Dougie “Boy” McTier and they got the chocolates with a +25.
During the week we had 2 club mates represent the O&M in the Bowls Victoria State Championships; Anne Miles played in both the Ladies Singles and Ladies Pairs over 60’s (I’m not sure but I think it was her first time in the over 60’s category….only joking). Unfortunately her and her partner Yarrawonga’s Caroline Reilly bombed out in the first round and in the singles she had a convincing win in her first round and then went out in the second round after a brave showing. In better news Garry “Wally” Sanders got all the way to the final and just failed. Wow what a fantastic performance from our multiple singles champ. It just goes to show what talent our bowls club has.
Our club wants to promote more Social bowls, so we are going to try a “Super” Sunday game on Anzac Day 25th of April starting at 1.00pm. Dress will be mufti and we will be playing 3 games of 12 ends, the game will be 3 bowl pairs, entry fee will be $20 a team. So if you are interested please put your name down on the list at the bowls club or contact Garry Pressnell (0408 143 057) or Ray Brown (0407 437 046).
The AGM will be held on Monday 31st of May at 7.00pm in the Willow Room at the golf club. Nomination forms are already out and must be in by 13th of May by 5.00pm. Let’s get many nominations in for all positions so we can get the best people available.
This week we had Terry “Shagga” Baxter’s birthday. I thought it was his 80th but Lyn has informed me that it is only his 70th …. I’m certainly not going to question her BUT!!!!! (he must have had a very, very, very hard life). Also it will be one of our favorite ladies 90th birthday in Myra Nowell on the 21st. I hope young “Benny Boy” is going to take her out and spoil her rotten. Have a nice day and may there be many more to come.
As from Thursday 22nd April and starting at 10am there will be a weekly social roll up. There will be no sheet, so the format each week will depend on the numbers. So if you would like to, come along for a relaxed fun morning of bowls and then you can later have a coffee and a chinwag (of course this will depend on the weather).
