Weekly Report May 02

YMGCR BOWLS CLUB

On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon, we had 44 bowls grace our greens.  We had 4 two game winners and coming out on top with a +9 were Lynton Potter and a visitor from Yarrawonga in Peter Taylor. Runners up were Terry Matthews and another visitor in June Binental with a +12 and third went to Norman Winderbank and yet another visitor in Glen Evans.  Also a very big thank you to all the Yarrawonga bowlers who gave us great support.

On Sunday I am sad to report one of our old mates in Mick Looney passed away.  Although Mick hasn’t played bowls for several years now, he will always be remembered as a very competitive little bowler and an avid Carlton supporter.

On Sunday we had four girls in Miles, Sanders, Smith and Middleton playing in the O&M group side. Playing the other 15 regions and only losing their first game by 4 shots they then went on to win the final.  Miles and Sanders rink had a very good win and Middleton rink skippered by Jude Bartell had a massive win with Sue having a fantastic 2 days of brilliant leading.  Smithy rink was skipped by Kylie Whitehead and was always in trouble but fought back to go down by 5.  Garry Sanders was in the men’s squad who come in 3rd place.  Garry had a very good series giving his rink a great start.

Next week we have several players playing in the Bowls Victoria Championships in Bendigo.  We have Anne Miles, Laureen Smith and Claire “Colonel” Sanders playing with Kylie Whitehead in the ladies 4’s. Anne will also be in the ladies pairs with “Colonel” Sanders and Ian Brimblecombe in the mixed pairs. Also representing us will be Garry Sanders, Andy Lefevre and young Jimmy Lefevre in the men’s 4’s. Good bowling and do us proud.

Also on Thursday night is the Bowls Victoria awards night and Milesy is up for an award.  Good luck old girl !!!!!
