YMGCR BOWLS CLUB
Wednesday Social Bowls.
Last Wednesday saw 24 players participate for Social Bowls. The increased prize money and change of format, to the now popular nominated 3 bowl pairs, is proving popular with bowlers. First prize of $120.00 and a drink card each went to the team of Chris Horne and Colin Withers. The losing rink consolation prize of $50.00 went to combo of Ron Lamson and Kurt Bleckwehl. The first lucky number prize of $20.00 went to Keith Eade, and the second lucky number prize of $10.00 went to Barb Tennyson.
Friday Social Bowls.
Thursday night’s heavy rain, while welcome, didn’t bode well for Social Bowls last Friday. All was not lost though as fine, but cool weather greeted the 28 players who enjoyed the afternoon’s game. With pennant bowls just around the corner, the Friday format of 2 x 4 x 2 nominated pairs, played over 18 ends is ideal practice for the upcoming season. Despite the previous evening’s rain, the greens ran well. Fist prize went to the team of Vicki and Colin Withers. Second prize went to the pairing of Doug McTier and Noel Millar. The losing team consolation prize went to the combo of Barb Tennyson and Ross Lloyd. The fist lucky number prize of a drink card and $20.00 went to Ron Lamson and the second lucky number draw of $10.00 was won by Andy Lefevre.
Weekend Pennant Practice Match YMGCR vs Benalla.
YMGCR played host to teams from Benalla Bowls Club last Saturday and the games were played in a good competitive spirit. Both YMGCR and Benalla fielded sides that should go someway to indicating what their respective divisional teams should look like, once pennant commences. As far as YMGCR’s 1st side went it was something of a comfortable win with two rinks up and one rink going down. The rink of Robyn Forge (L), Judy Leeson (2), Danny McNeill (3) and Rob Hummel (S), were in a tight tussle all afternoon and went down 17 shots to 21. The combination of Colin withers (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Ian Keat (3), and Ray Irvine (S), cruised to a comfortable 25 shot to 14 shot victory. The team of Rhonda Irvine (L), Chris Horne (2), Greg Green (3), and Julian Jones (s), were engaged in a tight tussle all afternoon but in the finish went down 12 shots to Benalla 16 shots. We’ve saved the best rink result for last, with the rink of Ian Febey (L), Ray Brown (2), Michael Vaughan (3) and Gary Presnell (S), sailing easily to a 23 to 10 shot win.
The A2’s played out a loss to Benalla’s 2nd side with the final scores YMGCR 63 to Benalla 84. Waving the flag in fine fashion for YMGCR were the rink of Marie Morffew (L), Tony Durkin (2), Ian Morffew (3), and Bob Evans (S) who won comfortably 24 shots to 19 shots. Allan Goudge’s rink, Lynne Baxter (L), Vicki Withers (2), and Peter Lidgerwood (3), fought hard all afternoon and at the last end shared the points with their Benalla opponents 17 shots all. The rink of Barb Tennyson (L), Ross Lloyd (2), Greg Fisher (3), and Neil Loveridge (S), pushed their opposition all afternoon but in the end went down 11 shots to Benalla 20 shots. It was a similar story for Ron Lamson’s rink; Jill Lamson (L), Jodi Powell (2), and Liliana Borwick (3), fought hard all game but Benalla pulled away in the finish with YMGCR 11 shots to Benalla 28 shots.
The A5’s fought out a heart stopper going down by the narrowest of margins, YMGCR 28 shots to Benalla 29 shots. The rink of Doug McTier (L), Bill Hidson (2), Gavin Borwick (3), and Les Balfour (S), won well doubling their opponents score 18 shots to Benalla 9 shots. It was a different story for the rink of Sue Evans (L), Carolyn Boston (2), Noel Millar (3), and Neville Coleman (S) who played out the game to the last end but went down 10 shots to Benalla 20 shots. Until next week, good bowling.
