Weekly Report October 06

YMGCR BOWLS CLUB

Wednesday Social Bowls.

Last Wednesday, again saw a good turnout of bowlers, with 34 players participating. The weather was fine and both greens were running well. The winners on the day were two visitors, Richard and Jan Hermassoo, whose first prize was $140.00 and a drink card. Due to the number of players participating there was a one rink game of triples and the Runners Up winning rink prize was won by Anne Miles, Greg Green and Andy Lefevre who won $60.00. The Losing Rink consolation prize went to Gavin and Liliana Borwick, who shared $30.00. The first Lucky Number prize of $20.00 went to Ron Lamson and the second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 went to Robyn Forge. Just a reminder that Wednesday Social bowls will be continuing through the pennant season.

YMGCR 2024 / 2025 Pennant Season Preview.

It’s that time of year again with both Weekend Pennant, and Mid – Week commencing this Saturday and next Tuesday respectively. YMGCR will be fielding three sides this season in the Weekend Competition with sides in A1, A3 and A5. In the Mid – Week competition we have sides in A1 and A2. We have farewelled a number of players, over the cooler months, who have moved on to other clubs. On the incoming player side of the ledger we welcome Ian Brimblecombe, who played Weekend Pennant last year for us on a permit from Wangaratta. Ian has transferred to YMGCR and is playing both Weekend and Mid – Week for YMGCR, welcome aboard Ian. The A1s have the long trip to Kiewa in the first round, and Kiewa always present a challenge on their home deck. The A3s play host to Mansfield, and this should be a close-run game for the home side. The A5s entertain Milawa, at the Golf Club, and as no YMGCR side has been in the same section as Milawa for some time, YMGCR need to be on their toes.

In the Mid – Week comp the A1s also have the long haul to Kiewa in the first game, and this game should give the A1s an indication of the strength of their side, and prospects for the season. My tip is the visitors in what should be a close-run affair. In contrast to the A1s long trip the A2s have the short hop over to Club Mulwala in what should be a hard fought local derby. Good luck to all YMGCR players for the upcoming season. Until next week, good bowling.
