Weekly Report November 10

YMGCR BOWLS CLUB

Mid – Week Pennant.

Any away win is a good win, and so it proved when the A1s journeyed to Corowa Civic last Wednesday. Yes, Wednesday, as Mid – Week was delayed by a day due to the Melbourne Cup. The final score saw YMGCR 85 shots and 12 points to Corowa Civic 47 shots and 2 points. Staying with the racing theme, winning by the length of the straight, were Laureen Smith (L), Ray Brown (2), Michael Vaughan (3), and Anne Miles (S) 38 shots to Corowa Civic 14 shots. This latest triumph sees the A1s in 4th place, and next week they host Wangaratta at the Golf Club.

A trip to Wodonga for the A2s proved less profitable, where they went down in a photo finish by one shot to the home side. After the 63rd end was played it was Wodonga 60 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 59 shots and 2 points. Boarding the bus for the journey back to the Golf Club, with the two valuable points in their pocket was the rink of Greg Fisher (L), Judy Leeson (2), Peter Lidgerwood (3), and Allan Goudge (S), who won 24 shots to Wodonga 21 shots. The A2s are now in 5th place on the ladder and next round entertain Wangaratta at home.

Weekend Pennant.

The A1s should have entered the home game against Wangaratta with a degree of confidence given the two sides respective places on the ladder. Wangaratta in the finish proved too strong for YMGCR winning 87 shots and 16 points to YMGCR 74 shots and 2 points. The after match, where YMGCR have been hosting their visitors with cheese and biscuit platters, was for the home side a quiet affair, where humble pie might have been a more appropriate dish. Winning well though for the Golf Club, after a see sawing struggle, were Laureen Smith (L), Col Withers (2), Michael Vaughan (3), and Ray Irvine (S), who won 28 shots to Wangaratta 22 shots. The A1s are now delicately placed in 6th place and next week play host to Rutherglen.

The A3s travelled to the historic gold mining town of Beechworth, alas there wasn’t a win mined at Beechworth Bowling Club, where the home side won 85 shots and 16 points to YMGCR 68 shots and 2 points. All was not lost, however, when Doug Wheeler (L), Cliff Morton (2), Vic Brincat (3), and Neil Loveridge (S), secured 2 points for the Golf Club winning 22 shots to Beechworth 19 shots. The A3s are in 4th place on the ladder and next week host Wodonga at the Golf Club.

The A5s boarded the bus bound for Wangaratta and when the 84th end was completed it was Wangaratta 61 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 53 shots and 2 points. The bus trip must have been to the liking for Sue Evans (L), Jodi Powell, (2), Keith Eade (3), and Norm Windebank (S), who won well, 23 shots to Wangaratta 12 shots. The A5s are in 6th place, and next week play another away game when hosted by Chiltern.
