YMGCR BOWLS CLUB
Mid – Week Pennant Report.
The A1s played host to Wangaratta last Tuesday and it was the visitors who made a clean sweep of the game: Wangaratta 60 shots and 14 points to YMGCR 41 shots and 0 points. Keeping their opponents’ minds on the job, for the entire game, was the rink of Ian Febey (L), Peter Lidgerwood (2), Neil Loveridge (3) and Ray Irvine (S), who went down 14 shots to Wangaratta 18 shots. The A1s are now in 6th place on the ladder and next week face a challenging essay when they play Wodonga, at Wodonga.
In contrast the A2s travelled to Wangaratta and had a strong all rinks win. Final scores after the 63rd end saw YMGCR 69 shots and 14 points to Wangaratta 44 shots and 0 points. Leading the charge for YMGCR was the rink of Cliff Morton (L), Marcia McGrillen (2), Vic Brincat (3), and Ian Keat (S), who cruised to a 24-shot win over Wangaratta, who managed 11 shots. Also rising to the occasion were Sue Evans (L), Judy Leeson (2), Greg Fisher (3) and Allan Goudge (S), who won well 26 shots to Wangaratta 15 shots. The A2s are now in 5th place on the ladder and face another away trip to Moira next week.
Wednesday Social Bowls Report.
A light muster of only 12 players participated last Wednesday, which is the lightest roster for some time, since the relaunch of Wednesday Social. The winners were, Les Balfour (S), and Barb Tennyson (L), who took home $50.00 and a drink card each. The Consolation Prize went to Kerry Kinnane (S), and Rob Lidgerwood (L), who shared $30.00. The first Lucky Number prize of $10.00 went to Kerry Kinnane. The second Lucky Number prize went to Barb Tennyson. In mind of the light numbers last week, it’s probably a good time to remind players from YMGCR and bowlers from surrounding clubs, along with visitors, that the Wednesday Social format is now nominated 3 bowl pairs over 1 game of 20 ends. Visitors and players from surrounding clubs are still welcome. Visitors and players from other local clubs please include a contact telephone number when adding your name to the entry lists at the bowls office.
Weekend Pennant Report.
The A1s entertained Rutherglen last Saturday and it was YMGCR leading early in the game, but after the 84th end was completed, it was Rutherglen who won the day. Rutherglen 88 shots and 16 points to YMGCR 71 shots and 2 points. All was not lost though with the rink of Chris Horne (L), Bill Jenkins (2), Anne Miles (3), and Ian Brimblecombe, after a see sawing struggle, winning 23 shots to Rutherglen 18 shots. The A1s now find themselves in 6th place facing an away fixture at Wodonga next weekend, which is never an easy assignment.
The A2s played Wodonga at home and in a hard-fought encounter went down 74 shots and 4 points to Wodonga 84 shots and 14 points. Winning well for YMGCR and pocketing a valuable 2 points were Doug Wheeler (L), Cliff Morton (2), Vic Brincat (3), and Neil Loveridge (S), who beat their opponents 25 shots to 14 shots. The A2s are currently in 5th place on the ladder and next week play host to Tungamah at the Golf Club.

Boarding the bus for the journey home with 2 points in their pockets were Marie Morffew (L), Ross Lloyd (2), Noel Millar (3), and Ian Morffew (S), who won 21 shots to Chiltern 16 shots. The A5s are in 6th place on the ladder and next week host Wodonga at the Golf Club.
Bloke’s Day on Oaks Day Update.
Last week’s edition of the Chronicle featured photographs from the annual Bloke’s Day on Oaks Day charity tournament. One photograph’s caption advised that the tournament was in aid of Friends in Common. While Friends in Common is a marvellous charity, which deserves our support, the Blokes Day tournament is run to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer with all monies raised going to Prostate Cancer research. Until next week, good bowling.
