YMGCR Bowls Club.
Mid – Week Pennant Report.
The A1s were due to play Kiewa at the Golf Club last Tuesday, and unfortunately for the home side the game was washed out, a pity as YMGCR would have fancied their chances against Kiewa. Both YMGCR and Kiewa, under abandoned match conditions were awarded 7 points each. Next week, the A1s travel to Corowa RSL.
As with the A1s, the A2s were scheduled to play at home last Tuesday, against neighbours, Club Mulwala and their fixture was also washed out with both YMGCR and Club Mulwala sharing the 14 points, 7 points each. The A2s are in 5th place on the ladder and are a chance to play finals. Next week they face Myrtleford at Myrtleford.
Wednesday Social Bowls Report.
Last Wednesday saw a strong turnout of 32 players shape up for Wednesday Social Bowls. Good numbers considering that we are now in the pennant season. Winning first prize of $100.00 and a drink card each were Ray Brown and Michael Vaughan. In second place and sharing $60.00 were Gavin Borwick and Bill Hidson. The losing rink consolation prize of $40.00 went to the team of Neville Coleman and Noel Millar. The first Lucky Number prize of $20.00 went to Les Balfour. The second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 was won by Greg Fisher. Since the revamp, last winter, of Wednesday Social Bowls numbers have increased and so has the prize money on offer. Congratulations to Norm Windebank, Danny McNeill and Gavin Borwick, and their helpers for making the relaunch so successful. This Wednesday the 11th of December is the last game of Wednesday Social for the year. Wednesdays resume on the 8th of January 2025. A big thank you and a Merry Christmas to all those bowlers that have supported Wednesday Social this year. We look forward to seeing you again in 2025.
Weekend Pennant Report.
The A1s travelled to the far end of Belmore St. last Saturday to take on local rivals Yarrawonga and unfortunately for the visitors after the 84th end it was YMGCR 69 shots and 3 points to Yarrawonga 77 shots and 15 points. Winning for the visitors was the rink of Colin Withers (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Michael Vaughan (3), and Ray Irvine (S), who won 15 shots to Yarrawonga 14 shots. Sharing the shots and gaining a valuable point for YMGCR were Rhonda Irvine (L), Ray Brown (2), Greg Green (3), and Julian Jones (S), who tied 21 shots apiece with Yarrawonga. The A1s are now in 8th place on the ladder and next week host Myrtleford at home. The A3s played host to Swanpool and it was a clean sweep for the home side; YMGCR 87 shots and 18 points to Swanpool 55 shots and 0 points. Leading the charge to the win were Barb Tennyson (L), Norm Windebank (2), Cliff Morton (3), and Allan Goudge (S), who convincingly beat their opposition 28 shots to Swanpool 11 shots. This latest strong win sees the A3s in 5th place and next week they entertain Benalla at the Golf Club.
The A5s also played at home but alas it was a diametrically opposed result to that of the A3s. After the last bowl of the day was delivered it was YMGCR 33 shots and 0 points to Commercial Club Albury 98 shots and 14 points. Giving their opposition a lot to think about during the game were Marie Morffew (L), Jodi Powell (2), Ross Lloyd (3), and Ian Morffew (S), who went very close 16 shots to Commercial Club 19 shots. The A5s are in 7th place on the ladder and next week are on the road, travelling to Dederang. Until next week, good bowling.
