Mid – week Pennant Report.
The A1s travelled to Corowa RSL last Tuesday and in the finish, as far as the total shots were concerned, it was a close run thing. However, the points won told a different story. When the last bowl of the game had been delivered it was Corowa RSL 56 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 55 shots and 2 points. Winning well for YMGCR was the rink of Rhonda Irvine (L), Chris Horne (2), Greg Green (3), and Ian Brimblecombe (S), who won 26 shots to Corowa RSL 14 shots. The A1s are currently in 6th place on the ladder and after the Christmas break play their next game at home, against Corowa Civic.
The A2s journeyed to Myrtleford last week and for the home side it was a convincing clean sweep; Myrtleford 79 shots and 14 points to YMGCR 47 shots and 0 points. When Mid – week pennant resumes, after the Christmas break, the A2s host Wodonga at the Golf Club. The A2s are now in 5th place on the ladder, with a chance of participating in the finals.
Wednesday Social Bowls Report.
The last game of Wednesday Social, before the Christmas break, saw a good showing of 24 players participate. All games were played on the east green, which was running as well as it ever has. Winning the day’s competition were Les Balfour and Rob Lidgerwood, who shared first prize of $80.00 and a drink card each. The winning rink runners up were Neville Coleman and Noel Millar who shared $50.00. The losing rink consolation prize of $30.00 went to Kurt Bleckwehl and Julian Jones. The first Lucky Number prize of $20.00 went to Barb Tennyson. The second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 was won by Julian Jones. To all those that have played Wednesday Social this year have a peaceful, safe Christmas. We’ll see you in the New Year. And don’t forget that Wednesday Social Bowls resume on Wednesday the 8th of January.
Weekend Pennant Report.
Before last Saturday’s home match against Myrtleford, the A1s found themselves in the unenviable position of 8th place on the ladder, so the match had a distinct air of anticipation. Happily, for YMGCR, after the 84th end it was a welcome, and much needed win for the A1s. The final score; YMGCR 84 shots and 16 points to Myrtleford 74 shots and 2 points. Blazing the trail for the home side were, Chris Horne (L), Peter Lidgerwood (2), Anne Miles (3), and Ian Brimblecombe (S) who won 28 shots to Myrtleford 11 shots. Leaving last week’s rink loss well and truly in the rear vision mirror were Laureen Smith (L), Ian Febey (2), Allan Goudge (3), and Gary Presnell (S), who won 24 shots to Myrtleford 17 shots. In a close tussle all afternoon and prevailing after the last bowl were Rhonda Irvine (L), Ray Brown (2), Greg Green (3), and Julian Jones (S), who won 16 shots to Myrtleford 14 shots. Going into the Christmas break the A1s are now in 6th place, and after the break play host to Corowa RSL at the Golf Club.
The A3s played host to Benalla and the resounding win gave them an early Christmas present, and doing their chances of playing finals a shot in the arm. The final scores; YMGCR 107 shots and 17 points to Benalla 57 shots and 1 point. Winning as they pleased were Barb Tennyson (L), Bill Jenkins (2), Cliff Morton (3), and Greg Fisher (S), who made short work of their opposition 22 shots to Benalla 8 shots. Putting their opponents well and truly to the sword were Dog McTier (L), Tony Durkin (2), Bob Evans (3), and Kerry Kinnane (S), who won 34 shots to Benalla 7 shots. This almost clean sweep sees the A2s head to the Christmas break in 4th place. When pennant resumes, they travel to Bright.
The A5s took on Dederang, at Dederang, last Saturday, and in a competitive match went down to to their hosts. The final score saw Dederang 63 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 50 shots and 2 points. Ensuring that YMGCR didn’t board the bus empty handed were Marie Morffew (L), Jodi Powell (2), Ross Lloyd (3), and Ian Morffew (S), who won 21 shots to Dederang 19 shots. The A5s are now in 7th place and after Christmas, their first essay is an away match against Yackandandah.
