YMGCR Bowls Club.

Mid – Week Pennant Report.

The A1s travelled to Myrtleford for their fist match of the season. Myrtleford, at Myrtleford is never an easy essay, so it was to the A1s credit that they made a clean sweep of the fixture. The final scores saw YMGCR 81 shots & 14 Points to Myrtleford 37 shots & 0 points. Winning in consummate style were Laureen Smith (L), Ian Febey (2), Michael Vaughan (3) & Anne Miles (S) who bested their opponents 30 shots to 11 shots. The A1s are in 2nd place on the ladder & this week host top placed Corowa RSL at the golf club.

The A2s undertook the short hop to Club Mulwala & were somewhat comfortably beaten by Club Mulwala. The final score had Club Mulwala 72 shots & 12 points to YMGCR 41 shots & 2 points. Bringing home 2 points for the A2s were Lynne Baxter (L), Caroline Reilly (2), Peter Lidgerwood (3) & Greg Fisher (S), who won 19 shots to Club Mulwala 18 shots. The A2s are in 7th place on the ladder & next host Kiewa at home.

The B2s hosted Lavington at the Golf Club & it was a clean sweep for the visitors. After the 63rd end final scores saw YMGCR 43 shots & 0 points to Lavington 80 shots & 14 points. Coming oh! so close to securing a rink win were Sue Evans (L), Chris Morrissy (2), Norm Windebank (3) & Garry Hart (S), who narrowly went down to the opposition 18 shots to Lavington 20 shots. The B2s are in 8th place on the ladder & next week sees them playing Tungamah at Tungamah.

Thursday Social Bowls Report.

Last Thursday saw 32 players turn out for social bowls. Both greens were in play & the players enjoyed fine weather & free running greens. Winning the day & sharing first prize of $100.00 & a drink card each, were Barb Tennyson & Mick Reilly. Coming home in 2nd place were two of our new bowlers Michelle Thomas & Noel Loft who shared $60.00. Winning the losing rink consolation prize were Terry Cartwright & Michael Szabo who won $40.00. The winner of the first Lucky Number prize was Ian Keat who won $20.00. The second Luck Number prize of $10.00 was won by Barb Tennyson.

Weekend Pennant Report.

The A1s hosted Yarrawonga under lights at the golf club last Friday evening. The game was played on the east green, in front of the deck. There were plenty of spectators on hand to watch the game, which was played on a great green with fine weather the order of the evening. After 84 ends of bowls the scores were YMGCR 78 shots & 8 points to Yarrawonga 78 shots & 10 points. Winning in fine style, for YMGCR were Judy Leeson (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Michael Vaughan (3) & Ray Irvine (S), who made short work of their opponents 29 shots to Yarrawonga 14 shots. The A1s are in 7th place on the ladder & next week travel to Myrtleford.

The A3s journeyed to Swanpool & came very, very close to an away win, but alas went down narrowly. The scores at the end of the game saw Swanpool 82 shots & 14 points to YMGCR 79 shots & 4 points. Winning well for YMGCR were Lynne Baxter (L), Liliana Borwick (2), Michael Reilly (3) & Rob Lidgerwood (S), who beat their Swanpool opposition 25 shots to 11 shots. The A3s are in 6th place on the ladder & travel to Benalla for their next assignment.

The B1s played host to Moira on Saturday & it was a case of, ‘miss by an inch & you might as well miss by a mile’. After the dust settled it was YMGCR 55 shots & 4 points to Moira 56 shots & 10 points. Bringing home 2 points for YMGCR were Terry Baxter (L), Sue Evans (2), Gavin Borwick (3), & Bob Evans (S) who won 21 shots to Moira 17 shots. Finding themselves in 6th place, the B1s next assignment has them hosting them Yarrawonga at home.

The B2s played Myrtleford & it was a clean sweep for YMGCR with the scores YMGCR 78 shots & 14 points to Myrtleford 47 shots & 0 points. Winning in fine style & featuring two of our new bowlers, was the rink of Doug McTier (L), Sue Beca (2), Noel Loft (3), & Les Balfour (S), who topped their opposition 31 shots to 17 shots. The B2s are in 4th place on the ladder, & next week their momentum is interrupted with a bye. Until next week, good bowling.
