WEEKLY REPORT 22nd March 2026

YMGCR Bowls Club.

Wednesday Social Bowls Report.

After a week’s hiatus, due to the Hahn SuperDry Tournament, Wednesday Social was back, last Wednesday the 18th of March. A light turnout of 20 bowlers shaped up for the afternoon’s play. The game was played on the west green, which after rain earlier in the week was running truly, but was on the slow side. Enjoying the conditions were Neville Coleman and Fred Donaldson who shared first prize of $80.00 and a drink card each. The runners up prize of $40.00 was won by Rob Lidgerwood and Les Balfour. The losing rink consolation prize of $20.00 was shared by the team of Chris Horne and Bruce Davie. The Lucky Number raffle was won by Chris Horne. Wednesday Social is a terrific format; one game of three bowl pairs played over 22 ends. The games are played on the best greens in the Ovens and Murray region, if not on the length of the Murray River. The prize money is always worth playing for, and the Lucky Number raffles give you a chance to take home some cash, if things didn’t go to plan out on the greens. The game commences at 12.30pm. Entry sheets for each week’s play are always up on the Bowls Office notice board. Visitors and single entries are always welcome. Visitors and single entries please include a contact telephone number when placing your names on the entry sheets.

Men’s Pairs Grand Final.

The Men’s Pairs Grand Final was played last Thursday with Greg Green and Gary Presnell playing Julian Jones and Ian Keat. At the end of the day Gary and Greg were too good and it is congratulations to the both of them on winning the 2025 / 2026 Final.

Friday Social Bowls.

After the long break, during the pennant season, Friday Social Bowls returned last Friday the 20th of March. As with Wednesday Bowls, numbers were on the light side with 28 players participating. We hope that once the Friday games have been up and running for a few weeks the numbers will be back up around the high 30s to 40s. Back to Friday’s games, which were played on rinks which were free running, add to that fine weather and it was full steam ahead for an afternoon of great bowling. Finding conditions to their liking, on rink 11, were Denise Trubiano and Carolyn Boston, who won first prize. The runners’ up, who found the conditions favourable in Siberia, also known as rink 14 were Anthony Clotta and Robert Watt. The lucky loser’s consolation prize went to Gavin Borwick and Doug McTier. The first Lucky Number prize of was won by Norm Windebank. The second Lucky Number prize was won by Lynne Baxter. The Friday Social organisers would like to see more names down on the entry sheets for the coming weeks. So, if you’re after a great afternoon of bowls, played on great greens, with good tunes in the background, why not enter a team. The entry sheets, are always up on the Bowls Office notice boards. Single entries and visitors are welcome. We would ask single entry players and visitors to include a contact telephone number when placing your names on the entry sheets.

End of Pennant Season Function.

The end of season celebration will be held this coming Sunday, the 29th of March, at the lagoon. The afternoon commences at 12.00pm with entertainment commencing at 12.30pm. The format is a BBQ with salads, followed by dessert. This should be a great afternoon, where you can get together with your bowling friends and celebrate what has been a successful season for YMGCR.  It is also a chance to catch up with many of our members before they push off to warmer climes for the winter. If you are coming along, please place your names on the attendee sheets, which are now up on the Bowls Office notice board. For those that are coming along, and are so inclined, the organising committee would ask that, if possible, could you bring along a salad, or dessert to assist with catering. We’ll be taking a break for a couple of weeks, and press reports will recommence for the April 15th edition. Until then, good bowling.
