WEEKLY REPORT 15th March 2026

YMGCR Bowls Club.

Hahn SuperDry Tournament 2026.

The 2026 edition of the YMGCR Hahn SuperDry Tournament was probably one of the best yet. The tournament was held last Wednesday and Thursday, the 11th and 12th of March. The presentation of the greens, the greens surrounds, the appearance of the golf course and the club house was exemplary. Our thanks go Course Superintendent Chris, and Greens Supervisor Rohan. The format for the tournament was 5 games of 2x 2 x 2 x2 mixed pairs played over two days: three games on Wednesday and 2 games on Thursday. Lunch was served after the first game on both days. Wednesday saw a cold meat and salad lunch served, and there were quiche Lorraine, hot chips and salad served on Thursday. Both lunches were terrific, and our thanks to Michelle and her catering team. The scoring system, which caused some headaches last year, worked seamlessly: our thanks to Wendy Pump, and Chris Morrissy who manned the scoreboard over the two days. Score cards were gathered, and collated by Gary Presnell and Ray Brown, thank you both. The driving forces behind the success of the tournament were Kerry Kinnane, Shirley Hummel, Sue Beca and Anne Miles. Kerry and Sue wrangled the teams up for the event. Shirley Hummel collated the entry fees and prize money and umpired over the two days and organised the raffles. Anne Miles also brought passion and experience to the organisation and running of the tournament.

The first prize was won by Anne Miles and Ian Brimblecombe, who shared $2,000.00. Second place was won by Matt Roberston and Di Hands, who shared $1,000.00. Third place was won by Laurie and Barb McDonald who shared $500.00. Fourth place was won by Rhonda Irvine and Michael Vaughan who shared $300.00

The Mystery Draw team prize, OF $100.00 was won by Courtney Bennington’s side. The best team for day 1 was won by Mary Paton and Chris Randall, who shared $100.00. The best team for day 2 was won by Laureen Smith and Greg Green, also sharing $100.00. In conclusion, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to YMGCR CEO Peter Savy for arranging the sponsorship package of $4,100.00 with Hahn SuperDry. Additionally, thank you to the YMGCR bar staff whose prompt service over the two days was appreciated.

Sunday Social Bowls Report.

Sunday Social Bowls commenced this Sunday, and the day was very well received by the players. 16 players participated, and we hope that number will increase over the coming weeks, as the concept gathers momentum. The game commences at 1.00pm, with players asked to muster at 12.30pm for the allocation of rinks and teams. The format is single entry 2 games of 12 ends of 3 bowl pairs. The cost of the game is $5.00 per player. The teams are decided by the convenors, prior to commencement of play. Ideally, there would be one experienced player playing with a lesser experienced / novice player. As an ice breaker, there is a draw to the spider before the commencement of play. The draw to the spider was won by one of our new bowlers, Craig. At the completion of the first game the playing positions are reversed. The winners of the inaugural day were Lynne Baxter and Ray Brown who shared $40.00. The consolation prize was won by Ron Lamson and Hayden Beca who won $5.00 each. The raffle of a roast pork and vegetable box was won by Trevor Kilpatrick. Our thanks go to Woolworths Yarrawonga, and Terry Cartwright for their generous donation to the raffle. Entry sheets for next Sunday’s game are now on the Bowls Office notice boards. See you next Sunday!

Ladies Pairs Final 2025 / 2026.

The Ladies Pairs Final for the 2025 / 2026 season was contested by Rhonda Irvine and Laureen Smith who played Anne Miles and Robyn Forge. After a tightly contested and entertaining game, played in good spirits, it was Anne Miles and Robyn Forge who prevailed. Congratulations to both teams for putting on such a good show, which kept the spectators enthralled.
