Mid – Week Pennant Report.
The first week of the 2025 / 2026 season finals series saw the A1s play Corowa RSL in a Qualifying Final at Corowa Civic Bowling Club. Corowa RSL, who had finished in top spot on the ladder would appear to be formidable opposition come finals time. After the 63rd end of the match had been played, the end of season ladder positions were an accurate indication of the result. Final scores saw Corowa RSL 64 shots and 12 points defeat YMGCR 51 shots and 2 points. For YMGCR it was Chris Horne (L), Ian Febey (2), Michael Vaughan (3), and Anne Miles (S), who won the day, beating their RSL opponents 23 shots to 17 shots. After a terrific home and away season, Rhonda Irvine (L), Greg Green (2), Gary Presnell (3), and Ian Brimblecombe (S), went down by the narrowest of margins, 17 shots to Corowa RSL 18 shots. The A1s now have a Preliminary Final against Wangaratta which is to be played at Corowa Civic Bowls Club on Tuesday.
The A2s whose season has been eerily similar to the A1s finished the season in second place. Their first finals outing saw them playing a Qualifying Final against Club Mulwala at Wangaratta Bowls Club. As with the A1s the end of season ladder positions were an accurate form indicator for the first finals match. After the last bowl was delivered it was Club Mulwala 63 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 61 shots and 2 points. Waving the flag for the A2s were Liliana Borwick (L), Mick Reilly (2), Shirley Hummel (3), and Rob Hummel (S), who won well, 28 shots to Club Mulwala14 shots. The next outing for the A2s sees them take on Kiewa in a Preliminary final this Tuesday at Corowa RSL.
The B2s played Tungamah in an Elimination Final at Corowa RSL. As with the A1s and the A2s the end of season ladder position was a fair indication of what was to come in the finals. At the end of the game, it was Tungamah 82 shots and 14 points to YMGCR 47 shots and 0 points. This was the end of the season for the B2s, and our congratulations go to the players who represented the B2s in the final, they were, Noel Smith, Susan Beca, Ron Lamson, Peter Lidgerwood, Karen Bianco, Wendy Pump, Chris Morrissy, Kerry Kinnane, Denise Trubiano, Gavin Borwick, Gary Hart and Vic Brincat. Congratulations to the other YMGCR players who represented the B2s with distinction this season.
Thursday Social Bowls Report.
Milder weather saw a good turnout of 32 players participate last Thursday. Both greens were in play and were running very well. Sharing first prize of $100.00 and a drink card each were Ray Brown and Greg Green. Second place saw Karen Bianco and Ron Lamson share $60.00. The lucky losing rink consolation prize went to two visitors from Malva Bay, Linda and Rod Franks who shared $40.00. The first Lucky Number prize went to Les Balfour who won $20.00. The second Lucky Number Prize of $10.00 was won by Ron Lamson.
Weekend Pennant Report.
After the elimination of the A1s in the first week of the finals, the spotlight fell on the B2s who had enjoyed a wonderful home and away season where a lot of our new bowlers were introduced to pennant bowls. After a win that was full of merit in week one of the finals, the B2s shaped up to Corowa Civic in a Preliminary Final at Rutherglen Bowls Club. After a long tussle played, after 63 ends it was Corowa RSL who prevailed, winning 58 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 52 shots and 2 points. Winning well for YMGCR were Neville Coleman (L), Tom Kindred (2), Noel Loft (3), and David Irvine (S), who won 22 shots to Corowa Civic 16 shots. This brings a successful season to a close for the B2s. Our congratulations go to those additional players who played in the Preliminary Final, they were, Wendy Pump, Chris Morrissy, Terry Cartwright, Les Balfour, Doug McTier, Sue Beca, Ron Lamson and Hayden Beca. Thanks, and congratulations to all our bowlers who represented the B2s over what has been a great season.
YMGCR / Mercy Health Barefoot Charity Challenge.
Week three of the Charity Challenge saw another terrific turnout of over 100 bowlers participating. Winning sides on the night were, Limestone Jacks, KDR, Richies, Bare Minimum, Plank, Yarrawonga SES, Fab 4, Riverland Raiders, Men’s Shed, Garden Lovers, Hill Billies and Mick’s Mob. Ou sincere thanks go to Woolworths Yarrawonga who have donated raffle prizes over the first three weeks of the tournament. Ron and Jill Lamson have also donated generously to the raffles. Looking ahead to round four, there is the chance of wet weather, andwhile we need the rain, here’s hoping that fine weather can smile on Tuesday evening. Until next week, good bowling.
