Wednesday Social Bowls Report.
Last Wednesday the 6th of May saw another strong turnout of 40 players shoulder arms, or should that be bowls, for the weekly game of nominated 3 bowl pairs. When I think back to the days when perhaps 12 players would turnout for Wednesday’s the transformation has been remarkable. Congratulations to the Wednesday organisers for the sterling work they have done in transforming Wednesday Social. This week’s winners were the team of Norm Windebank and Tony Durkin who shared first prize of $100.00 and a drink card each. The runners up prize of $60.00 was won by the combo of Laureen Smith and Col Withers. The losing rink consolation prize of $40.00 was won by Jill and Ron Lamson. The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $20.00 was won by Karen Guymer, and the second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 was claimed by Les Wilson.
Friday Social Bowls Report.
Grey, scudding skies and cooler weather saw a slightly lighter than usual muster of players last Friday the 8th of May. Despite the cooler weather, the greens were running well, and games were played across both greens in the north south direction. Finding conditions on rink 12, which is almost in Siberia, were Michael Szarbo and Ian Keat who won first prize of $100.00. The runners up, playing on rink 4 were the combo of Judy Leeson and Allan Goudge who shared $90.00. The losing rink consolation prize of $40.00 was shared by Blue and Joy Watt, who played on rink 5. The first Lucky Number prize of $15.00 and a drink card went to Noel Loft who won with number 43. The second Lucky Number prize of $15.00 went to Joy Watt, who won with number 21.
YMGCR Bowls Section AGM – Part 2.
Last week we introduced readers to the YMGCR Bowls Committee for 2026 / 2027 and thanked those committee members who are retiring from serving on the committee. The members who attended the AGM also had the task of endorsing those members who had nominated for the Ladies and Men’s Match Committees and the Weekend and Mid – Week Selection Committees. We can announce that the members of the Ladies Match Committee for 2026 / 2027 are: Vicki Withers Chairperson, Robyn Forge, Judy Leeson and Lynne Baxter. The Men’s Match Committee 2026 / 2027 comprises, Chris Horne Chairperson, Bruce Davie, Gavin Borwick, Les Balfour, Chris Morrissy and David Irvine. The Weekend Selection Panel members for 2026 / 2027 are, Greg Fisher, Greg Green, Bruce Davie, Anne Miles and Ray Brown. The Mid – Week Selection Panel for the 2026 / 2027 season are, Lynne Baxter, Lilliana Borwick and Peter Lidgerwood. Two more Mid – Week Selectors are required, and the Bowls Committee and the Mid – Week Selectors will approach members, seeking expressions of interest in joining the Selection Panel. Our sincere thanks go to those members who served on the 2025 / 2026 Match and Selections Committees who are retiring from those Committees. Our club is only as strong as our members willingness to volunteer to serve on our committees. Their contributions have made YMGCR a far better club. Those retirees are, Ladies Match Committee, Jill Lamson and Carolyn Boston. Weekend Selection Panel, Ray Irvine and Gary Presnell.
