Wednesday Social Bowls Report.
The Wednesday Social Bowls coordinators were left with little choice last Wednesday but to cancel the days bowls, never an easy, or in some instances, a popular decision. Last week’s heavy and persistent rain made the choice pretty obvious. No one likes playing on slow, wet greens particularly when you are continually wiping your bowls dry. However, if BOM can be believed, the outlook for this Wednesday looks like fine, sunny weather so, it will be only a one week hiatus for Wednesday Social. Just a reminder that the format is the always popular nominated 3 bowl pairs. Even though the format is nominated, single entries and visitors are always welcome. Single entries, and visitors are asked to include a contact telephone number when placing their names on the entry sheets, which are located on the bowls office notice boards.
Friday Social Bowls.
Threatening skies on Friday morning didn’t bode well for Friday Social Bowls getting off the ground. Thankfully, clearing skies made for a fine afternoon, so it was all systems go for the afternoon’s play. With the uncertain weather outlook numbers were lighter than usual with 28 players turning out. Games were played in the east west direction, and the west green was the only green in play. Considering the amount of rain that we experienced last week the pace of the green was pleasantly surprising. Congratulations are in order to the greens staff for presenting the greens in such good nick. First prize winners were Sue and Hayden Beca who won $60.00 and a drink card each. The runners up prize was won by Greg Fisher and Les Wilson, who shared $40.00. The losing rink consolation prize was won by Greg Green and Julian Jones, who won $20.00. The first Lucky Number prize of $15.00 was won by Les Spencer, and the second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 was won by Stephen Day.
Sunday Funday Social Bowls.
Sunday’s fine weather saw 27 players turn out for Sunday Funday Social Bowls. Numbers playing Sundays have been both steady and very encouraging, which is a credit to the Sunday Funday coordinating team, so well done, one and all. This week, the traditional pre game draw to the spider was won by Ron Lamson, Ron’s close bowl saw him collect a selection of sweets. Winning the day and collecting $60.00 for their good bowls were the team of Barb Tennyson and Noel Smith, who played on rink 4, where their opponents were Noel Loft and Deb Rodgers. The winners’ runners up prize of $40.00 was shared by the team of Terry Cartwright and Norm Windebank. Terry and Norm played on rink 12, where their opponents were Ian Febey and Gavin Borwick. The losing team consolation prize of $10.00 was won by Deb Rodgers and Noel Loft, who played on rink 4 against the day’s major prize winners Barb Tennyson and Noel Smith. The first Lucky Number prize of $20.00 was won by Norm Moule and the second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 was won by Liliana Borwick.
Riddle of the Week.
Do you find yourself in winter gazing into the fire, thinking of nothing in particular? Therapeutic isn’t it. Well, here is something to get the grey matter working while you look at the flames and embers; it’s a riddle that goes like this; Q: Until I am measured, I am not known. Yet how you miss me, when I have flown. What am I? Hope this keeps you and your friends guessing for a while. The answer? Well, you’ll have to wait for next week’s column. Until then, good bowling.
