WEEKLY REPORT 16th August 2016.

YMGCR Bowls Club.

Wednesday Social Bowls Report.
Wednesday’s fine weather greeted another strong showing of 44 players, for last week’s instalment of Wednesday Social Bowls. Play was in the north – south orientation and the green speeds were about 13 seconds.
They saw that you can judge a sporting club by the way its members celebrate players skill and success on the field of play. Using that criteria, YMGCR Bowls is at the top of the tree. The warm, generous applause that greets the winners when their names are announced in the clubhouse is something to behold, and last Wednesday was no exception. Winning first prize of $1000.00 and a drink card each were the team of Terry Cartwright and Julian Jones. Terry and Julian played Katandra West’s Merv Hannaford and Colin Barrett on rink 4.
Vicki and Col Withers won the second winning rink prize of $50.00. Vicki and Col played Sue Evans and Chris Horne on rink 14. Despite being a long way from the tunes, and the members lounge, rink 14 has proven very lucky in recent weeks. So, the moral of the story is; if you are drawn to play on rink 14, enjoy the walk.
The losing rink consolation prize, of $30.00 was shared by the team of Karen Guymer and Deb Rodgers who played on rink 4, where their opponents were Dave Charrington and Gavin Borwick.
Dave Charrington won the first Lucky Number raffle prize of $30.00 and the second Lucky Number raffle prize of $20.00 was won by Mick Crawford.

Friday Social Bowls Report.
Friday Social Bowls continues to draw strong playing numbers, and last Friday was no exception with 52 players turning out for this week’s edition. It might be a case of players having the old Easybeats hit; Friday on my mind, when placing their names on the entry sheets.
The old saying goes, ‘number 13, lucky for some’. And so, it was for Bruce Davie and Garry Seamer who played on rink 13 where their opponents were Col Withers and Murray Tempany. Garry and Bruce won $100.00 and a drink card each.
The winning rink runners’ up were next door on rink 12, where Caroline and Mick Reilly played Di and Steve Day. Caroline and Mick shared $70.00 prize money.
The losing rink consolation prize of $40.00 was shared by Sue and Hayden Beca who played on rink 2 against Karen Bianco and Ron Lamson.
The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $30.00 was won by Mick Crawford, and the second Lucky Number raffle prize, also of $30.00 was won by David Irvine.

Sunday Funday Social Bowls.
A light roster of 12 players enjoyed Sunday’s fine weather, which had a hint of early spring about it. The pre game draw to the spider was won by Chris Horne.
The winning rink was the team of Chris Horne and Bob Brokenshire who won $20.00. Incidentally, thank you Bob for filling in at the last moment.
The losing rink consolation prize of $10.00 was won by the combo of Norm Moule and Ron Lamson. The Lucky Number raffle was won by Les Wilson, whose prize was $15.00

Riddle me this…
Last week we set readers the challenge of correctly answering the following riddle: Q: Two soldiers are in the western desert during WW2. They both have packs on their backs. One of the soldiers is dead; the other soldier is alive. The soldier who is alive has his backpack open, and the soldier who is dead has his backpack closed. What is in the dead soldier’s backpack? The answer: A parachute.
This week’s riddle: Q: Built for a king, I guard him not in life, but in death. I stand tall, pointing to the skies. What am I? The answer next week, until then, good bowling.
