YMGCR BOWLS CLUB
Saturday Pennant had the A1’s play newly promoted club Rutherglen at home. The YMGCR juggernaut is now slowly beginning to find their mojo. They won 16/116 to 2/62. Best rink this week was Mick Szabo’s and with the whole team contributing they took control early and ran out winners 40/10. Jimmy Lefevre also had a resounding win 30/8. Scott Widdison rink had a tight battle all day and won 25/22. Les Spencer was well down at the start but fought back to lose 21/22. That now puts them 2nd on the ladder. They must now travel to Kiewa next week, very hard to beat at home.
A2’s played Chiltern at home and came out of it with an excellent win. Haven’t beaten them too often. The stars of the day was Robert Lidgerwood rink who got the team over the line winning 27/17. Cat’s rink started slowly and the old fellow had to produce some vintage shots, but like any good team his boys responded well in the second half and all of a sudden the Chiltern skip felt the heat. Cat won 17/13. Ray Brown was in front all day and came out with a draw 16/16 and Laureen Smith rink was in a tough battle all day and it took the Chiltern skip to play some big bowls to get them out of trouble and Smithy went down 22/16. This now puts us 3rd on the ladder only 3 points from top spot. Next week we play Myrtleford who are 4th at home.
A4’s played Wodonga at Wodonga and lost 0/68 to 18/100. Best rink was Marie Whitehead who lost 17/23, Ian Morffew lost on a rare occasion 19/26, Rob Hummel (good to see Rob back bowling) lost 18/27 and Bobby Evans lost 14/24.

Les Spencer’s rink were the stars of the day winning 26/15, Anne Miles had a tough day but prevailed winning 21/19 and Garry Sanders started off slowly but came back losing 24/26. This now puts them 13 points clear on top.
The A2’s played at home against St James (only a small club but always competitive) and we won 11/69 to 3/51. The big winners for us was the rink magnificently skipped by Marcia McGrillen with good contributions from her whole team winning 32/7. Stuart McNeill rink was well down early but the young gun skipper drew the shot with his 2nd last bowl for a tie 20/20. Ray Brown’s rink went down 17/24. We are now 3rd on the ladder and only 3 points off top spot and next week we will play Corowa Civic at home who are 2nd on the ladder.
The A3’s played Dederang at home and had an excellent win 11/67 to 3/48. The stars were Marie Whitehead ‘s rink who had a huge win 37/10. “Doddy” had a tight battle and came out with a draw 15/15 and Danny McNeill lost 15/23. This now puts them 2nd on the ladder only 1 point from top.
The B1’s also played at Myrtleford and won 10/61 to 4/59 thanks to Ian Morffew, George Andreasen (first game for the season), John Millar and Daryl Davey who got the team over the line winning 27/13. Les Balfour rink also played well going down 18/21 and Mary Essex lost 16/25. They sit 5th on the ladder but only 4 points out of the four.
On Thursday we had a few of our girls play in the O&M Over 60’s Singles and making it through to the semi finals are Laureen Smith and Anne Miles. Also we had a few lads play and Garry Sanders made it through.
On Sunday we had Garry Sanders playing in the O&M State Pairs for men. He won through to the next round last week but bombed out this week. Our girls Anne Miles and Claire Sanders made the final but failed to get the win. Well done to all our team mates who did YMGCR proud.
We now have the 2 men who will play in the Club Singles final, Andy Lefevre who beat Mick Vaughan and Ken Widdison who put out Gary Presnell.
Wednesday Social bowls had 20 players and the winners were T Milne / A Fary and the runners up were R Lidgerwood / G Borwick. Lucky number went to “Doddy” and the jackpot failed to go off. Friday Social bowls has gone for a Christmas break, but will be back in the new year.
“RINK OF THE WEEK” goes to Mick Szabo, Stuart McNeill, Wayne Lowrie and Mick Vaughan with their 40/10 thumping.
