Vale Danny McNeill.
It is with sadness that YMGCR Bowls Section advises Yarrawonga / Mulwala Bowling Community of the passing of our esteemed member, Danny McNeill. Danny passed away at Yarrawonga Community Hospital on Saturday evening the 21st of December surrounded by his family. Danny was 73 at the time of his passing.
Danny was born in Dundee Scotland on the 10th of August 1951. Danny was the oldest of 6 children. Danny’s parents decided that the future lay on the other side of the world. They sailed to Australia on the Fairsea, initially settling in Adelaide in 1965, the family moved to Melbourne in 1966. Danny commenced an apprenticeship, as a toolmaker, at the Government Aircraft Factory at Fisherman’s Bend. Post apprenticeship, Danny worked in the oil industry, for World Services. He was a keen soccer fan and during the 1970’s was a member of the Altona Soccer Club. Prior to moving to Yarrawonga Danny was for many years a member of the Deer Park Bowling Club.
After moving to Yarrawonga, in 2005, he joined the YMGCR Bowling Section in 2012. Danny was a valued contributor to YMGCR, both on and off the green. Danny was on the Social Committee in 2017. Endowed with a rich baritone, Danny could always be relied on for a song, or two at the Bowls Section Christmas functions. He was on the Match Committee from 2018 to 2024. Danny served for many years as Chairman of the Men’s Match Committee. Danny’s was a forthright and intelligent voice on the Bowls Committee where his opinions were considered and always timely and relevant. Danny was passionate about Wednesday Social Bowls, which he ran with success for a number of years. Whatever the task, Danny always had the best interests of YMGCR Bowls first and foremost at heart. The YMGCR Bowls Section will be the poorer for his passing. Danny is survived by his wife Sharon, sons, Damien, Stuart and Allistair, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Our thoughts, and prayers are with Danny’s loved ones.

Wednesday Social Bowls re commences on the 8th of January 2025. Remember to place your names on the entry sheets at the Bowls Office. Single entries and visitors from neighbouring clubs and clubs further afield are welcome. Visitors and single entries please place a contact phone number when entering your names on the list.
Mid – week pennant recommences on Tuesday the 25th of January. Weekend pennant re commences on Saturday the 18th of January. We are having a week off so there will be no press report next week. Until next time, good bowling.
