YMGCR Bowls Club.

Wednesday Social Bowls Report.
Last Wednesday, the 26th of August, saw another bumper turnout of 48 players enjoy fine weather. The greens were running well, and games across both greens were played in the east / west direction.
First prize winners, playing on rink 4, were Lynne Baxter and Judy Leeson. Judy and Lynne shared $100.00 and a drink card each. Lynne and Judy played against Laureen Smith and Mick Reilly.
The runners up prize was won by Tony Durkin and Norm Windebank, who played Les Balfour and Sue Evans on rink 6. Tony and Norm won $60.00 for their display of consistent bowls.
Rink 6 again came into play when Sue Evans and Les Balfour won the losing rink consolation prize of $30.00. As mentioned above, Sue and Les played against Tony Durkin and Norm Windebank.
The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $30.00 was won by Neville Coleman, and the second Lucky Number raffle prize of $15.00 was won by Joe Borg.
Friday Social Bowls Report.
Last Friday saw another reasonable turnout of 44 players for the last week of August Friday Social Bowls. Games were played across both greens, which looked in pristine condition with lines clearly marked and all the logos in place for the Joy Johnson Tournament, which was due to kick off on Saturday morning.
First prize winners were the team of Barb Tennyson and Norm Windebank who won $100.00 and a drink card each. Barb and Norm played on rink 2, where their opponents were Phil Pettit and Dave, from Tungamah Bowls Club.
The winners’ runners up were the combo of Merv Hannaford, from Katandra West and Michael Szabo, from Club Mulwala. Merv and Michael shared $50.00 and their opposition, on rink 13 were Ron Lamson and Karen Bianco.
The losing rink consolation prize of $30.00 was won the team of Peter McKay and Shane Maddox, from Yarrawonga Bowls Club. Peter and Shane played Lynne Baxter and Mick Reilly on rink 5.
The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $25.00 was won by Vicki Withers, who chose number 34. The second Lucky Number prize of $20.00 was won by Dave Charrington, who chose number 5.
Just a reminder to bowlers that Friday Social’s last game for 2026, is on Friday the 25th of September, which is, for Victorians, the AFL Grand Final Public holiday.
YMGCR Saturday Pennant Practice Matches.
YMGCR will be holding pennant practice matches on Saturday the 12th of September, Saturday the 19th of September and Saturday the 3rd of October. The match on the 12th of September is an inter club practice match, played at the Golf Club against Cobram. Roll up at 12.45 pm and the game gets underway at 1.00pm. There will be a $10.00 green fee for this game to assist with the cost of providing afternoon tea for our visitors and our participating pennant players.
The practice match, being held on the 19th of September is an intra club practice match. This practice match ties in with our opening of the greens ceremony for the 2026 / 2027 season. The opening of the greens will commence at 12:30pm, where our ladies and men’s champion will roll the first jack and bowl of the season. After the opening ceremony the practice match will commence at 1.00pm.
At approximately 3.30pm afternoon tea will be served in the club. There are no green fees for this match. Partners are welcome to come along to the afternoon tea.
Our final practice match is an intra club practice match, being held on Saturday the 3rd of October. Roll up at 12:45pm for a 1:00 pm start. There will be no green fees for this match.
Dress code is full club uniform for all practice matches. Name sheets for the practice matches are now on the Bowls Office notice boards.
