Wednesday Social Bowls Report.
40 players turned out on Wednesday the 2nd of September for the first game of Wednesday Social Bowls this spring. The temperature was a mild 16 degrees and conditions were overcast and threatening. Happily, the rain didn’t put in an appearance to dampen spirits and the greens.
It was a case of, number 13 lucky for some, as our first prize winners strutted their stuff on rink 13. Karen Bianco and David Irvine shared first prize of $90.00 and a drink card each. Karen and David’s opponents were Rhonda Irvine and Barb Tennyson.
The winning rink runners up prize was won by the team of Lynne Baxter and Ray Brown whose opponents, on rink 9, were Mick Reilly and Vin Slattery. Lynne and Ray shared $50.00 for their good bowls.
The losing rink consolation prize of $20.00 was won by Dave Charrington and Gavin Borwick who played on rink 11, where their opponents were Barb Tennyson and Bill Hidson.
The first Lucky Number raffle prize was won by Karen Guymer, who won $20.00. The second Lucky Number raffle prize of $15.00 was won by Shane Maddox.
Friday Social Bowls report.
Players were greeted by changeable weather last Friday. A top temperature of 18 degrees accompanied by sunny breaks was the order of the day for the 36 players who turned out. The greens were in good condition and were running well. Play was in the north – south direction.
First prize winners were the team of Caroline and Mick Reilly. Caroline and Mick’s opponents, on rink 10, were Michelle Thomas and Ray Brown. Caroline and Mick won a drink card each and $80.00.
The runners up prize was won by the combo of Rhonda Irvine and Peter Verlardo, who shared $50.00. Rhonda and Peter’s opposition, on rink 13, were Bruce Davie and Mick Crawford.
The losing rink consolation prize of $20.00 was won by Deb Rodgers and Karen Guymer, who played on rink 12, where their opponents were Garry Seamer and Chris Horne.
The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $15.00 was won by Liliana Borwick, and the second Lucky Number Raffle prize, also $15.00 was won by Ray Brown.
We’re now counting down to the finish of Friday Social Bowls. The last game will be on Friday, the 25th of September. So, make sure that you have your names on the Friday Social sheets early in the week.
Practice matches.
Looking forward, there are a number of pre season practice matches that have been scheduled for YMGCR.
The first is an inter club hit against Cobram this coming Saturday, the 12th of September. Roll up is at 12.45pm for a 1.00pm start. Dress code is club uniform. There will be a $10.00 green fee per player attached to this match to assist with the cost of afternoon teas.
Our next weekend pennant practice match is on Saturday the 19th of September. This game is an intra club practice match. Prior to the commencement of the game there will be our opening of the green ceremony. The opening of the green will commence at 12.30pm, where our 2025 / 2026 season ladies’ and men’s champions will roll the first jack and bowl, which will declare the greens open for 2026 / 2027. Dress code is club uniform. Those members who are not playing pennant this year are welcome to come along and either participate in the game, or just come along for the afternoon tea, which will be served in the clubhouse at the completion of the practice match, approximately 3.30pm. Your partners are welcome to come along and watch the game and enjoy the afternoon tea after the game. Please place your names promptly on the lists on the notice board, for this game, to assist with catering. There is no charge for this practice match, or the afternoon tea.
The last weekend pennant practice match will be an intra club game held on Saturday, the 3rd of October. Roll up at 12.45 pm for a 1.00pm start. Dress code: club uniform. There will be no green fees for this match. Names on the lists on the notice boards promptly please.
There will be a mid week pennant practice match against Benalla, at Benalla on Tuesday the 6th of October. Dress code: club uniform. There will be a $10.00 green fee per player to assist with the cost of the buses. Please place your names on the lists at the bowls office promptly, as a courtesy to the selectors.
