YMGCR BOWLS CLUB
Midweek Pennant had the A1’s travel to Myrtleford and they came away with a victory 12/58 to 2/47. Laureen Smith’s rink got off to a good start and led 9/6 after 10 ends and from then on, they put the pedal to the floor and peeled of the next 10 ends and they won 28/7. Anne Miles also was in control all day except for a few loose ends where they dropped 2 fours, but they still recorded a good victory winning 22/15. Julian Jones was playing his first game from his two week holiday (probably wished he had an extra week away) as they lost the first 8 ends to trail 0/13, but the rink gutsed it out and went down 8/25. Very important message here, keep going to the very end because every shot counts on the big score board.
The A2’s welcomed St James to our green and as usual the game went down to the wire with St James coming out on top winning 12/64 to 2/59. Kery Kinnane’s rink started slowly to trail 1/6 after 3 ends, but with Barb Tennyson leading beautifully and being backed up by Cathy Spinks the YMGCR rink slowly got on top and led 10/6 after 7 ends. St James then came back with a vengeance to regain the lead at 15/13 after 13 ends. Kinnane’s rink then got the break they needed when they picked up a 5 and they went on to win 25/19. Rob Hummel’s rink got off to a bad start and trailed 4/12 after 7 ends. They couldn’t make any leeway, but fought it out to win the last 3 ends going down 16/20. Allan Goudge’s rink also couldn’t get into the game. They flew home to score 7 shots in the last 3 ends, but it was all in vain going down 18/25. The A2’s are still in the relegation battle and next week they travel to Corowa Civic who sit 2nd and this could determine our fate.
The A3’s came up against top side Dederang at home and had to win to keep their top two finish alive, but they lost 2/47 to 12/65. Best rink was skipped by Lilian Borwick who trailed early but got back in front when they picked up 4 ends in a row to lead 11/5 after 11 ends and they came home winning 21/16. Ian Morffew’s rink battled hard early, but they then got a 6 on the 12th end to go to a 14/7 lead. However, that was the end of the ball game as the Dederang rink came home hard to win 18/23. Garry Hart’s rink had a hard day and they went down 8/26. They are still only 11 points out of the four and the best part is that they have their own destiny in their hands as they play 2 sides above them.
Weekend Pennant had the A1’s play Rutherglen at home and won 14/92 to 4/74. The big winners on the day went to Troy William’s rink who got off to a solid start and led 12/3 after 9 ends. After they dropped the next 2 ends they then went on a scoring frenzy losing only 2 more ends. Claire Sanders led well all day and was well backed up by Greg Green and the two big boys Julian Jones and Troy Williams. Stewie McNeill’s rink jumped out of the blocks and led 9/0 after 4 ends. Kenny Widdison played well and was well backed up by Snodger Lowrie and they came away with a 21/17 win. Scott Widdison ‘s rink were 4/9 down after 9 ends but bounced back to take a 15/11 lead after 16 ends, but they dropped a 4 on the 20th end. This gave the Rutherglen rink a bit of breathing space going into the last end and they needed it as they dropped a 2 and prevailed to hang on to win 19/18. Jimmy Lefevre’s rink got out to a good start and led 6/0 after 4 ends, but Rutherglen then hit back to take control and YMGCR was playing catch up for the rest of the game and went down 19/24. This now puts them 20 points clear of 3rd spot.
The A2’s played Chiltern at home and unfortunately came up short and went down 2/65 to 16/92. The only bright spot for the day was the form of Rob Hummel’s rink who won 19/10. Normie Windebank gave his side a great start (best on the green) and was well backed up by his 3 team mates Kerry Kinnane, Shirl Hummel and Robbie. They led from start to finish. Allan Goudge’s rink must have thought the game started at the usual time as they were 1/19 down after 8 ends, but they showed a lot of fighting spirit to claw their way back into the game and just failed to overhaul the opponents to lose 21/24. Neil Loveridge’s rink also started poorly and was never in the hunt and lost 12/27. Gary Pressnell’s rink was not sighted all day and they went down 13/31. Amazingly we still cling onto 3rd on the ladder, but if something doesn’t change quickly all the good work that we did in the first part of the season will be wasted. Next week’s game will be played on Friday night starting at 6 pm.
The A4’s went to Wodonga and came away with a gritty win 16/86 to 2/61. Doddy Dodman’s rink played beautifully all day and with Cliffy Morton and Les Balfour giving their rink a great start and Pricey and Doddy also contributing, they came away to win 27/13. Billy Jenkins got back onto the winners list winning 26/13. His new outfit of Lyn Baxter, Pam Dodman and Roscoe Lloyd combined well to take a good win. Danny McNeill’s rink with his front end of Vicki Withers, Les Wilson and Ian Morffew getting back into some form, made Danny’s day a lot easier and he also had a really good day and they won 26/13. The down side to the day was the injury to Jan Morton who had to retire, so taking that into consideration Bob Evans rink put on a bold showing with only 3 players going down 12/25. Great effort to Liliana Borwick , Ron Lamson and the old timer Bobby for hanging in there for the overall result. Still sitting 2nd and this week they travel to top spot Swanpool (who they beat in the first round) and will go into the big game quietly confident.
The mighty B2’s are making a charge after beating Club Mulwala at home winning 14/66 to 0/50. Bill Butterworth jumped out to a great start leading 14/1 after 9 ends. They got out to a commanding lead of 22/4. Club Mulwala then picked up a 5 and got back into the game, but the rink steadied with “Shagga” Baxter, and the 2 little pocket rockets Carolyn Boston and Sue Evans holding on to win 25/16. “Niffty” Coleman’s rink got off to a bad start and trailed 11/5 after 9 ends, but they won 5 ends in a row to put them back into the game. They made their move on the 17th end when they got a 7 (haven’t been told who was out of the count) and they came away with a 22/16 win. Gavin Borwick’s rink got a flying start to lead 11/0 after 5 ends, but the Mulwala rink got back and won the next 9 ends and led 15/11. But well done to Gavin’s team, Noel Millar, Chris Horne and Dougie McTier who didn’t panic and regained their momentum and got over the line on the last end to win 19/18. They are only 10 points out of the four and if they can win the next 2 games ……well anything is possible.
Novice bus driver “Golden Child” Micky Vaughan lost the bus keys at Myrtleford (long way from home), but luckily eagle eye Gary Pressnell spotted them on the path to save the day and save further embarrassment from the rookie driver.
