YMGCR BOWLS CLUB
Mid – Week Pennant.
The A1’s made the long haul to Kiewa and unfortunately couldn’t get over the line. The home side won with a degree of comfort: Kiewa 67 shots 14 points to YMGCR 50 shots and 0 points. This result finds YMGCR in 7th place on the ladder, with a considerable amount of work to do if they are to participate in the finals. Working hard for YMGCR however was the rink of Ian Febey (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Rob Hummel (3), and Mal Beer (S), who kept their opposition on their toes and went down narrowly, 15 shots to Kiewa’s 18 shots.
The A2’s played host to Moira and sent the visitors home with 1 point: YMGCR 51 shots and 13 points to Moira 45 shots and 1 point. Winning in style for YMGCR was the rink of Peter Lidgerwood (L), Cathy Spinks (2), Liliana Borwick (3), and Danny McNeill (S), who sent their opponents on their way back to Benalla, 18 shots to 14 shots. This win has YMGCR placed 4th on the ladder nicely poised for a chance at playing finals.
YMGCR’s A3 side entertained Dederang and the visitors would not have found the home sides performance to their liking, Dederang 57 shots and 2 points to YMGCR 61 shots and 12 points. As with the A2 side, the A3’s now find themselves in 4th place on the ladder with a real chance at participating in the finals. Winning well for YMGCR were Chris Price (L), Jodi Powell (2), Terry Baxter (3), and Ian Price (S), who won 25 shots to Dederang 14 shots.
Wednesday Social Bowls.
Due to adverse weather conditions, Wednesday Social did not go ahead. The weather looks fine for the next few weeks, the greens are running beautifully, the company is terrific, and with the Rolling Jackpot standing at a very tidy $120.00 it is well worth playing. For a great day out, enter your names on the sheets at the Bowls Office, visitors to town and members of other clubs are most welcome.
Weekend Pennant.
YMGCR’s A1 side played host to Myrtleford and it was a clean sweep for a motivated home team. YMGCR collected all the points which places them on top of a hotly contested ladder. Final scores after a game that had a certain amount of rivalry was, YMGCR 113 shots and 18 points to Myrtleford 58 shots and 0 points. Winning convincingly, as they have been in recent weeks, were the rink of Colin Withers (L), Gary Presnell (2), Anne Miles (3), and Ian Brimblecombe (S), who won 28 shots to 9. Trumping Ian’s rink and extending no hospitality to the opposition were Ian Febey (L), Greg Green (2), Julian Jones (3), and Garry Sanders (S), who won 37 shots to Myrtleford’s 11 shots. It looks like this may be a YMGCR side on a mission after last season’s narrow grand final loss.
The A2’s drew a home game against Howlong and unfortunately couldn’t salute when the 84th end was completed. Final scores were Howlong 88 shots and 16 points to YMGCR 68 shots and 2 points. Waving the flag for YMGCR were the rink of Ross Lloyd (L), Tony Durkin (2), Garry Hart (3), and Neil Loveridge (S), who secured 2 points with a 27 to 16 shot rink win. This places the A2’s in 5th on the ladder with a shot at finals.
The A4 side ventured to Mansfield, one of the longer journeys for YMGCR, and the homeward bound trip may have seemed somewhat longer after Mansfield won 66 shots and 16 points to YMGCR 61 shots and 2 points. Extraordinary that a difference of 5 shots can make to the overall score. Bringing home 2 valuable points for YMGCR were Doug McTier (L), Rob Martin (2), Jan Morton (3), and Doddy Dodman (S), who won by the narrowest of margins 17 shots to Mansfield 16 shots. The A4’s find themselves in 5th place and if things and form go their way, they are poised for a shot at the finals.
The B2’s won at home to Club Mulwala with the final score YMGCR 66 shots and 12 points to Club Mulwala 58 shots and 2 points. The B2’s now find themselves in 4th place with a real chance to go somewhere at the business end of the season. Winning well on the day for YMGCR were Jill Lamson (L), Bill Hinson (2), Sue Evans (3), and Les Balfour (S), 25 shots to Club Mulwala 11 shots. Until next week, good bowling.
