YMGCR BOWLS CLUB
Mid – Week Pennant.
Tuesday the 16th of January sees YMGCR’s A1 Mid – Week side resume a week early due to a delayed Round 1 match against Myrtleford. The game is being played at YMGCR. The game was postponed due to players from YMGCR and Myrtleford being away on State Representative duties in Western Australia while pennant was in the first round last October. YMGCR find themselves in 6th spot on the ladder. The A1’s however are approaching the remainder of the season with a fair amount of confidence and a berth in the finals is not out of the question. Myrtleford meanwhile, sitting in 8th place, will be desperate to accrue as many wins as possible to avoid relegation. This promises to be a hotly contested match.
Looking forward to next Tuesday the 23rd YMGCR’s A2s play host to Club Mulwala. The A2’s are in 6th spot on the ladder and with Club Mulwala in 7th place this should be a very competitive affair.
Our A3 side entertain Club Mulwala at the Golf Club and with the A3s in 7th spot on the ladder and Club Mulwala in 8th spot this looks a battle to avoid relegation. This match should prove to be a fight to the finish.
Weekend Pennant.
YMGCR’s A1 side host Wodonga in what will be billed as a top of the table tussle for top spot. The ladder finds Wodonga on top with 141 points and YMGCR in 2nd spot with 134 points if the A1s win this game well they most certainly will finish Round 11 in first place. For those that love a game of bowls played to a high standard this game will be well worth coming along to watch.
Our A2 side play host to Corowa Civic, who are in 8th spot, and the A2s find themselves in 5th place on the ladder. If things go YMGCR’s way in this game, they could be in 4th place once the Round is completed.
The A4 team make the journey the Benalla, and with the hosts in 7th place and YMGCR in 4th place, a win for the A4s would consolidate their position in the four, with a real chance at playing finals.
The B2s entertain Corowa Civic, and this may be a game that goes all the way to the finishing post considering the YMGCR are in the 6th place on 55 points and Civic are in 5th place on 60 points.
With three sides at home the atmosphere this Saturday should be terrific, so if you are at a loose end come down and have a look at some competitive games.
Ovens and Murray Group Side.
YMGCR had a number of players representing the Ovens and Murray Region in the 2024 Regions Sides Championships held in Ballarat over the 13th and 14th of January. Representing O&M in the men’s side were Michael Vaughan, Troy Williams and Jimmy Lefevre. In the ladies we were represented by Anne Miles and Laureen Smith.
The men’s side played well but couldn’t quite make it past the round robin games. The O&M ladies finished on top of the ladder after the round robin series, but unfortunately went down to Eastern Ranges in their first final. Congratulations to all YMGCR players who made the O&M Regional Side. Until next week, good bowling.
