Australian Open Report.

As mentioned last week, YMGCR had strong representation in this years Australian Open held at bowling clubs on the Gold Coast. Those flying the flag for YMGCR were Anne Miles, Laureen Smith, Claire Sanders, Garry Sanders and Gary Presnell. Anne, Laureen and Claire made it through the sectional rounds in the singles. Some notable results from the ladies in the sectionals were: Laureen Smith 21 to Ella Hipworth 2 (Moama). Anne Miles 21 to Andrea Brighentti 3 (ACT). Claire Sanders 21 to Sam Robinson 4 (Melbourne Cricket Club). Unfortunately, our ladies did not make it through the knockout rounds. Well done ladies though on some great bowls in the sectionals. Anne Miles (3) and Claire Sanders (L) teamed up with Linda Warburton (2) and Lisa Featherby (S) in the ladies’ fours. Linda and Lisa are both from WA. In the sectionals the ladies won all three of their games winning by 17 shots in game 1, 22 shots in game 2 and 1 shot in game 3. In the knockout rounds they won their first game by 12 shots and lost their second by 9 shots, this was not enough to progress any further. The girls do need to be congratulated on some superb bowling in the fours sectionals. Next week we’ll report on our men’s results. Till next week, good bowling.
